Custom .22 Benchrest build

There a member here Gonzalas has a custom 2500 stillar actioned for sale 6000.00 he would know smith

that is not able to be correct, 6000 is nuts, I,have built over half dozen rimfire benchguns for under 2800 USA dollars, 6 grand is impossible, the numbers don’t add up

buy a used gun or get one built for 3 us

Henry Remple near Calgary can build it but why, what stock are you going to get and who will properly inlet it

also are you using a Lapua or elegy reamer

use one of the better smiths in the USA for 3000 bucks, You. Any have wished to ask this question before buying the 2500 up here,

let's be honest jerry how many winning guns has the gunsmith you are about to recommend built,

and I don't mean local matches

Jeff

will look in the next couple of weeks, maybe consider selling the action (you paid probably 2000 or more and they are 1200 usa dollars so you save money
buying and getting a gun built in the USA I know I have done it before)

Jeff

braham you are already on one of the usa boards getting advice why did you ask here

You are sure coming across with an amazing Holier than thou attitude. A huge amount of this thread is your attitude, and it really isn't leaving a chance for people who are interested in this topic a chance to learn much

Richard Gorham

Mark Penrod

Billy Meyers
Gorden Eck

Brian ?? Voelker

I would pick richer Gorham but not sure of his pricing now or his current phone number

and let him pick the barrel, just choose your stock if given an option

PM me once you are ready to call him and we can chat if you wish

also phone muller works they do good rimfire barrels and see whom they would recommend

also shilen barrels

not trying to be eletist but working over a lee enfield is not benchrest quality work

Dunno... but he does well for me

And he has built the rifles that helped me get on the Cdn National FTR team.

If interested in Shilen Select match rimfire match barrels, I can supply so there is also that....

YMMV.

Jerry

let's try that again Jerry

RIMFIRE RIMFIRE RIMFIRE RIMFIRE gunsmith

2 utterly completely different thinks

henry remple is the only rimfire gunsmith in Canada I trust

and he does not build many rimfires that compete

so Jerry please list the rimfire rifles your gunsmith has made, and if it is Black art he is great but not sure he has built many rimfire br guns lately

and if you want pics I have over100 plaques for short range BR FTR 1000yard br metallic silhouette

does not mean squat when it comes to building a rimfire that works, for benchrest much harder than centerfire

which reamer does he use, eley or lapua and if eley machine number 2 or 4 works better in the gun
if he cannot answer those questions shy away,

jerry you are not an expert on PRS and certainly not rimfire benchrest

I have shot with you on the ftr development team and like you but you should not offer advice on short range BR

Wow!

There are very few gunsmiths that understand rimfire, they may understand everything there is to know about building a rifle, but little if any of it carries over into rimfire, it's as different as a shotgun is to a rifle but easily confused and raked into the same pile, centerfire rifles are very forgiving and you have a bit more control over the end result by reloading custom ammo, an option not available to rimfire shooters.

There is only 1 gunsmith in all of canada that I would trust with a 2500 action or any other custom action for that matter, I am sure there are others who can assemble the parts and call it a rifle, but truly only one that can assemble all the parts and put a smile on your face. I've seen his work, shot against his work and have been impressed with his work, but his online comment about if savage was the only rifle left on the market he'd learn to hunt with a slingshot is the number 1 reason I will not send any of my work to him, and good guys like him aren't getting any younger, and the younger guys have this stigma that because they can run CNC machines they can build a better product, these are the same guys that admit that CNC machines also make ammunition that doesn't shoot with ####......somethings need to be felt, you'll never get to know the feeling of that's right from that's wrong from the start button on a CNC machine
