Marstar Swedish 8mm surplus ammo

I demilled about 3500 rds of the stuff. My RCBS puller would not work consistently, so I followed Andys hole in a plate method.

The primed brass was sold to Browning 1919 shooters in Manitoba, who had 8x63 barrels for their guns.

So finally got my savage 16 built, 325 wsm.
Put it in a mdt lss. Filed a notch in the breach to allow longer bullets from my binder plate free mdt 308 magazines, a useful wsm practice.

Did some preliminary hands loads, got to 2700 with the surplus projectile over 62.5gr of the surplus powder before my chrono stopped giving reliable results (7400 seems off), got to 65.5gr before bolt stiffened a little.
Promising. New magnetic chrono ordered and I'll go from there.https://m.imgur.com/a

Is there any way of just hitting the primer safely rather than removing it or cooking it off?

I built myself a primer striker out of plumbing parts.

Basically, it's a 1/2" coupling to act as a shroud to protect my hand, with a 1/2" to 3/8" reducer, and a 1/4" plug that has a small screw with a pointed end through it. I have a 2x4 with a bolt penetrating through it to act as my anvil. I use a hammer as my hammer.

I slip a case over the bolt, put the primer striker over the case, hit the thing with a hammer, it goes pop, then I throw the bass into a fired pile and do it again. It's pretty quiet too, the primer blast goes into the wood and is muffled.

I'll post a video of the contraption later tonight if you want to see the thing in action.

That sounds like a pretty simple solution. I thought about making something too... I got a few out with the hydraulic method. Hammer and a piece of drill bit shank (size P).

Any more updates on chamber reamers? I have a vz24 barrel that I'd like to ream.

there should be at least 3 reamers in Canada I had one made I did 2 1919 barrels then sold it to someone on here (don't recall as it was years ago) Im sure at least 2 others on here had reamers too

Here's a short video on how I fire off the primers:

And here's my tutorial on downloading 8x63 into 8x57:

That's a good idea on a primer firing system.

I have gone as high as 48.0 hrs of the pulled powder under the pulled 218 gr bullet in the 8X57, and in my gun could see myself going to 50.0, but have settled on a mild 46.0 hrs. The Chrony is a much better high pressure warning system than primer appearance, and I use it to stay below 2350 fps.

Thanks for all your effort and for sharing these videos.

New chronograph arrived, tested some loads. Settled on 64.5gr of the surplus powder over bc-2 primers at 2936 ft/sec SD 15, once fired brass leaves a lot more room for powder, got up to 66gr (2960 ft/sec) and room for more powder, with no obvious pressure signs but a little more primer flow than i like, will work with and around 64gr for accuracy, as I'm admittedly working with 80 year old powder.

Will see how primer pockets and cases hold up, since right now cases are the expensive commodity. WSM leaves a little more room for dangerous pressure spikes, especially with that big shank on the savages.

Waiting for a muzzle brake as this thing kicks like a mule.

Ballistics test?....

Did a little more load development, have settled on 65.4gr of the surplus powder under the surplus projectile in my 325wsm.
From previous load velocity testing think I'm getting around 2950fps and a reasonable 1moa. I'm probably the weakest link at this point; muzzle break lost at the border and this thing will help develop me a flinch:)
Barrel heats up very quickly as it's a sporter contour but going to do some long range testing in the weeks/months to come.
Wish I had the shooting capabilities to do a down range velocity check with any sort of accuracy. Would be nice to get a calculated ballistic off this bullet.

Still, for ~$0.30/round to reload (at 5th reload with brass and it still looks good) you're getting a lot of bang for your buck.

Kicking a Necro-thread BTT, lol.
I got about 1.5 lbs of powder and 250 bullets out of the first belt, easy peasey. Watching TV and sitting with an old burnt up K98; insert cartridge into the muzzle, slight tweak at the 4 points...spin the bullet out with fingers, dump powder and repeat. Yeah, I'm mostly single...lmao.
Any new opinions or experiences members want to add?
Haven't had time to reload any as yet, damn work!

The powder is an all round great milsurp powder. I’ve used it on many calibers. Works very well with everything from the 6.5s to 8mms. The projectiles are also very good - way better than your avg hornady stuff.
I would buy more but I’ve got enough to last a good decade as it is.
