Best Combat Revolver- GP100?

you might be surprised by your wife.
my wife cant stand shooting poly guns (glocks, M&P's) but she LOVES to shoot my GP100!
and no 38's for her, she blazes away with the 357's.
i think what it is is the combination of the heavy frame and the nice soft hogue grip.

but ya, i was shocked when she picked it up and shot it and loved it.
its my only pistol that she will shoot now.

as for the front site i put a dab of white nail polish on it then a couple coats of orange, works like a charm!

get her own gp100 ... this is what i did to keep mine ...

I have been shooting a 4.2 stainless GP100 for years. Got a set of wolf springs, installed them but put the factory ones back in. I found using harder primers i wasnt always getting ignition. I also like the hard return spring for IDPA you dont notice the heavy pull under stress and lots of practice. For mods i contoured the trigger blade and hammer and flattened the front sight and changed the angle of the ramp on the blade. I found a set of pachmayer grips and couldnt be happier with it. Some stages i get better times than the auto guys. For holster i have a Bladetech kydex which scratches the finish but oh well, i no longer care about it being "pretty". Have fun with yours!

As for my wife she has shot it a bit too with light loads but think she just pretended to like shooting till i slipped the ring on. She knows its still my favorite hobby and its not an issue. She just stays home on sunday now.

Very nice revolvers and please keep the picture and feedback coming!!!
Just might go with my original plan of the 4.2" after all!
But there is still something that draws me to a longer barrel on a revolver.
Too many western movie as a child I guess!

you need to handle both to see what you like. prefer the 4.2 wife the 6, not shooting in competition i prefer stainless she prefers blued.

I did have better accuracy out of the 6” i had at first probably due to better balance. I just got the 4 for action shooting and holstering.

Get both.

I liked the 6" at first, but more and more, I like the 4.2"

My big bores, Redhawks in 44 Mag and 45 Colt, I like with the 5.5". The 6" just seems too long for me.

I was going to wait to see the new super gp100 in 8 shot. This a really cool gun and from they say action ready.

Good to know and I did look into just now...some case rims overlap.
Humm...back to the six rounder!

I might get a 7 shot 4.2" and an 8 shot super.
Just really don't like all the cutouts on the super.

Gp100 super is actually built on a Redhawk frame, just so you know. Also has different trigger system than regular Gp.

And its a little ugly IMHO.

Ugly, agreed.
Don't quite like the cutouts, looks better on a slide than a barrel.
I'll just get a regular six shooter until all the bugs are ironed out!
GP100 4.2" or 6" non slab sided barrel, with match champion grips and an unfluted cylinder would be nice.

Not digging that GP Super either.

Ruger does have a more classic 5" GP100 though. That would be the GP i'd get.

Ya, fell in love with this dealer exclusive. If the 357 ever makes it here, I'm on board. Great throwback, especially with the Roper style grips.

Prophet had it a while ago. They are still available through IRG.

What kind of porting would be effective on a 4.2" barrel?
And anyone in Canada do work on these?
Thinking about going full ape and getting everything possible done under the sun to one of these.
Here's a photobucket album I found:

And a couple from the web:

Or combat style with a shorter barrel than pictured, green g10 grips and simple night sights and no polish job :
