Hey fellas, just wondering if anyone shoots a norinco 1911 in 9mm in IPSC... I have always wanted a 1911 but never bought one.. I want it for more a tinker gun and to see if I'm going to like it before I spend a lot of cash on a higher end 1911.. or can a Norc be modified enough to become a good enough pistol for classic division or reliable enough??

Supposedly Norinco frames and slides are used for higher end builds. I have one, and the frame and slide specifically are actually surprisingly nice. Everything else looks like hot garbage (Seriously. The safety selector, mag release, trigger, etc look like they were cast in play-doh using melted down soup cans, then "machined" by small, un-skilled children), but those two parts are decent.

A while back, I read that folks in the US were upset that they couldn't get the Norc 1911 anymore. As Scotty pointed out, the slide and frame were made well with surprisingly good steel, better steel than some of the top US manufacturers were using. How much truth there is to that, couldn't tell ya but if it's on the Internet, it's gotta be true. :p

I got the 460 Rowland kit for my Norc 1911. This is near 44 mag in power.

Only a few makes of 1911 were listed as strong enough for this kit.

Norc was on the list.

A Norc, with better sights, better grips and a trigger job is an excellent pistol.

In the Wilson catalog they used to list the firearms that they would work on. Norincos were on the list. That was before Clinton prohibited their importation into the US. If Wilson thought they were OK then I would say they are.

Most of the "Custom "1911's built in this country are norinco based, I have one that is a great pistol, I like it better than top of the Kimber I had.
Had a NP22 9mm, stock other than grips, trigger was smoothed a bit, after about 400 rnds, it was nice and smooth, barrel bushing should be changed as they can be quite loose
Another one that was a great deal, was the Star Super B 9mm, But they are out of stock, Sold at 300.oo
The Norinco's are a great buy , everyone should have one.
You can as a rule buy new ones from dealers , than you can buy used ones. Some of the used ones have been tuned, but unless you know who that is , don't pay extra .

I have a Nork 1911 .45; feeds every kind of ammo you could feed it; it's accurate and the trigger is pretty good also. Mine is tight.

Chi-com Northern Industries Inc, aka, Norinco is an arm of the Red Chinese Army. Not our friends on any level.

President Clinton banned Norinco products into the US but the myth still remains about their superior fake quality for custom gun builds. Norinco junk remains unallowable/prohibited entry into the USA.

There are plenty of non-chi-com junk 1911's, particularly value priced 1911's coming out of the Phillipines that are superior.

Priceless! Especially the last one.

Have you worked on the Phillipine guns , I find a mixed lot with them as well, have not really seen any huge problems, but not a lot mileage on them, have had a odd one.
I get you point on the Chinese, and you are right.

LOL, this thread makes me want to throw up in my mouth.

Who is using Norinco parts for high end builds...????? Please let make a list so we can make sure, we will never ever buy a gun from them ever.

Norc are solid guns for the price, and like some people said, the lowers were used to make 1911 style open guns back in the day. One of the hardest metals out there, that some guys were breaking their more delicate gunsmith tools on them. Buy the thing, tinker with it, put in a trigger kit or what you want, polish it, paint it etc. For $370, if you dropped $600-700 into it, you could have a gun with the same parts that go into the $2500 guns in Canada.

Hahahaha I actually laughed out loud when I read this lmao

Freedom Ventures has amazing line up for 1911 parts. If you email them they will help you out with exactly what you need if you can't figure it out.

When they were available in the US, Wilson Combat used the Norinco frame and slide.

couple of questions.

Do you currently shot IPSC.
If so what division ?

I agree that buy the time you upgrade it enough to be what you want. You are better off waiting to by something a little higher end.
But I also think if your not in the game yet buy what you can afford and start shooting. It's a awesome sport and really most of us are not trying to be Masters.

Besides when you go to the matches you will meet people and see what they are running most will let you try theirs out and then you can decided what to buy.

I started in the production division with a sp01. I still shoot with it from time to time.

I think he just wants something to mess around with and tinker, upgrade, to learn the gun in and out. Kind of what I was planning to do for a budget 1911, learn and if I #### something up, buy a new part no problem. Just like building your own AR
