Holland and Holland factory craftmanship

Great video!

I had a Holland & Holland 20g that I bought many years ago for a good price, I used it for many grouse hunts. I sold it a few years ago when I wasn't going on dedicated grouse hunts anymore and realized that it was mostly relegated to being a "truck" grouse gun that we would pot grouse with when travelling to moose or deer hunting areas, and a $500 shotgun does that just as well.

Actually it was Tod Bartell who said to me on one hunt we were on "why the F@CK are you using this as a truck gun?" Laugh2

Well Fudd Elmer my age is showing on this one. When first I looked at H&H that was the price but alas that was awhile ago apparently.

When I got out of school, I remember looking at a Rolex Submariner for $850 and deciding, well, my $10 Timex was still running and it would be better to wai until my income was up a bit before buying one. Now they go for what, about $12,000.

I used to see some semi affordable high quality pre-owned shotguns the odd time at the old Skinners shop in downtown Toronto. That was in the 1980s and you could pick them up from the display rack and try them for fit, imagine!

If anyone is ever down that way, the main Orvis store in Manchester, Vermont as a rule has at least 20 pre owned custom guns there. The used field guns I've seen in the place have included most every famous British maker, with Purdey being the most popular. I've seen and read suggestions that Purdey is overrated, yet if I was given one I would be quite happy and would just ignore those mean people.

I'm sorry that you failed to understand the point that I was trying to make.

Mr. Shucker got it.

It seemed like you were implying that someday we'd look back on Turkish guns the same way we look at Japanese built guns. If I was wrong in that I apologize.

I've been in there numerous times and in fact recently tried very hard to come to terms on a consignment gun they had. The seller and I just had a differing view. German 16 gauge with 31" barrels. Their gunroom manager is extremely knowledgeable and very helpful.
