rifles in 6.5 Creedmore?

I just have to laugh. I've read this whole thread and I just have to laugh. There have been some pretty good claims from both sides of the fence.

Let's put it simple. Is the 6.5CM a good cartridge? Are there better? Are there worse? Does it work for your intended purpose? Are components as well as factory ammo generally readily available?

Who really cares if this cartridge will go 30fps faster, or this one will retain more energy out past 10,000 yards.....

I am a 308 and 30-06 guy. The 30-06 is an old and outdated cartridge that couldn't kill a gopher anymore according to some. Yet we all know it will take down anything we have in North America.
I just picked up a 6.5VM to see what all the fuss was about.i started of shooting factory "match" loads, 140 grain. I didn't notice a huge recoil difference between these and my 165 gr 308 handloads shot out of my Kimber, my CM is a Remington 700 Varmint. But, will it do the job? It sure will. Will it be more accurate than my 243 Varmint or than my wife's 308 VTR? Maybe. Maybe not. But, at the end of the day, who really cares? I get out shooting, I get different shooting experiences with the different rifles and different cartridges, and I HAVE FUN.
 
I've been shooting 6.5x55 for long before the 6.5CM was even thought of.
The 6.5cal is very effective and versatile. If you have a 6.5x55 or 260 rem, or 264 win mag, there is little benefit to swapping for a 6.5cm.
Most folks with the "but it fits in a short action" probably have Tikka's or other long/longish actions, not true short actions. I personally give zero benefit to short actions over long. Certainly haven't seen any practical accuracy of a short action over a long in my lifetime of shooting.
It would be a nice fit for a model 7 though.

I 100% agree. And I love owning different calibers to get different shooting experiences. Live is shot. The 30-06 and 308 Win are awesome cartridges.

I’m talking about the bloody magazine. And yes they are for a true short action.
