Anyone shoot 284?

And therein lies the rub, for all the tiny improvements in consistency, BC, etc it’s pretty hard to truly beat a straight .270 Winchester and being able to feed it off the shelf of any hardware store. :d I run ballistic circles and always end up back there.

.270 Win?!?!?!

You've changed, man.

Rem 7 284 Win

purchased from a CGN member, this custom Rem 7 in 284 Win rawks: 22" Apex brl, receiver flats done, bolt + handle skeletonized/spiral fluted, action trued and bedded Wildcat stock, Talley LW rings, and topped with a Leupold silver VX III 3x9x40 LR ballistic recticle, weighs 5.7 lbs. shoots .25 moa 140gr LRX just under 3000fps. My best and my main hunter ....

It’s always been there. ;) Probably the best balanced off the shelf mountain hunting round there is, it just isn’t exciting.

Pfft, it doesn't even have "Magnum" in the name.

Posted the build specs in Buckmastr’s original build thread. Sounds like I’m gonna have to try 120s. 140 NABs fly really well at just under 3000 FPS.

6lb 11oz scoped. Absolutely one of the favorites in my safe.

Yep bang on.
In the field it would be hard to know the difference. Even the bullet marks on steel look the same.

I used to conjure up rifle ideas with the .284 in mind, but not anymore. Now I would pick a 7-08. 7WSM or 7 SAUM in a SA rifle.

If you aren't a hand loader, a 7-08 is probably a better option for a non magnum in a SA rifle. No animal will be able to tell the difference.

I had a 284 in a Ruger 77 back in 1971. It was a good rifle but brass was hard to find, performance wasn't much better than a 7x57 and I decided to trade it for a 30/06. Later on, I built a bunch of 284's for other people but never did do another for myself.

I had a 284win, 7-08 and a 7wsm, I couldn't warm up to the 708 after owning the 284win, so the 7-08 went down the road.

I tipped over a Big Brute Sambar Stag yesterday afternoon after sit and glassing a big hill, as i left and drove down the bottom of the farm, i look up an below me was a animal making its way out with half hour light left i raced up an cut him off on the hill (on foot)
hoing to sneak on to him , he was on to me, so laid down lined up an sent. 9x burris , the 7mm08 went through and through the lungs an it took off like flat out...... i went up after the shot n found running marks an blood specks.... never too much blood.

400m later, this morning, we found the Animal.

huge, rutted up neck too!

past his prime, an old boy.

really happy with the 7mm08 to be honest!

My left hand Rem 788 in .284Win, Gailliard Mtn contour barrel, MPI glass stock, receiver has 4 flutes, bolt knob flattened and angled.

I had the original rifle built on a 4 land Alpine take off barrel back in the mid 80’s, about a half dozen years ago I changed out the barrel, as I burnt the ever livin piss outta throat on that Alpine tube.

The whole rig with 3 rounds of ammo in the mag and a Uncle Mike’s ultra light sling comes in at 7-5/8 pounds.

I own a Savage 99, Winchester 88 and a custom Vanguard I built last year. The Savage was my 4th hunting rifle bought in 1976 and I’ve shot 25 deer with it. Love the caliber
