Have a early 70's Ruger 77 in .284 shoots great . Good luck trying to find one , just saying .
 
Just built a switch barrel gun in 284 Win and 6 Dasher. Looking forward to shooting both if I ever get my Manners EH1. The 284 will wear a 24” 1 in 8 twist Benchmark. Thinking about importing some Hammer Hunters in either 143 or 155 gr.

Absolutely! Just won’t be for awhile, as I am importing it from a fellow I know in the US. If it is not here by deer season, that’ll make the decision of which tang safety - the 7x57 or 284 - to take in the field!

I'll say it again. In all my years of hunting and guiding it is my distinct impression that I have seen more one shot kills with the 270 Winchester than any other cartridge.

Very accurate, and with less recoil than the 30-06 or 7 mag, most guys just shoot it better. Plus, the bullets for it were specifically designed for that particular cartridge velocity, and work very well on everything.

Having said that, the 284 will do everything the 270 will.

Smart decision, Matt. You can barrel up a Rem 700, Winchester, or Ruger, using a great new barrel for less money than that, including the cost of the donor.

I have a nice Savage 99 in .284, and after my .250, it's my go-to. Lovely cartridge that has always performed as advertised. Never understood why it didn't catch on. I have to agree with everyone else who has commented already. If you really want one these days, just build a nice one yourself. I'm thinking of getting a .284 Win barrel for my bolt-action Savage one of these days. Make a nice mountain rifle.
