I have 3 vz58 of various barrel length and have not had gas or crud in my face over thousands of rounds . What make is the rifle?
800K produced.
Adopted by 20+ countries for use by their police and military.
Used in armed conflicts throughout the world.
Millions of rounds placed downrange by recreational users.
Reportedly has a superior barrel (military issue) with very good accuracy based on a milled receiver.
You must be some kind of special to think that because you are having a problem (its not an AR that is required to run "wet") that there is a flaw with the design and that everyone else doesn't know what they are doing since 1958.
If it is the 7.62x39 variant I use white grease (sparingly) on the contact points. Its "open" top design doesn't lend itself to oil "and" any grease not located between two metal surfaces isn't doing anything other than collecting dirt and debris.
I own two of them and like my SKS's I have never had any ammo not go "bang" when I pulled the trigger. Can't say the same of my AR's or other designs in my collection.
Do not have experience with .223 version (which I always thought wasn't a good good idea) as it was a redesign and there were other rifles that did it better.

x2. There should be no oil, etc in the gas system. On the vz58, use grease on the moving parts in the action and you will have clean shooting glasses all day. Keep everything off the piston, etc or else you will think it is raining gun oil.
That is surely due to oil applied in the wrong hole 
like other said these piston system part must be dry and clean. I had this rifle since january and shot over 1000 round with it and never had a single issue! I was previously a big fan of the sks. I really like the sks and its story behind it, but since i shot a bullet with a vz i would never use an sks again. It so faster to maintain and much more reliable! At least until she spit to my face XD

1. Mil surplus parts rifle. With welded and unwelded receiver. With modified trigger and the one with not (gremlin). Your list mainly applies to these rifles.
2. CSA built new production rifles. Rifle is still ~$1000 USD as it was 8 years ago. 1 out of 7 problems apply (optics, but yea try scoping AK with a stamped receiver, Vz at least has receiver holes for the mount). On 2500+ rounds. Zero malfunctions. Parts/barrel show no visible wear.
3. 223 CSA built new production rifle. Problems with gas system timing. 223 has less taper on the casing, so more sensitive to dirty chamber. Less reliable than 7.62x39 overall.

SO too much lube on the piston results in crud shot in the face
