Picked up my first mosin, don't know much about it except that it's an ex sniper with a bent bolt and matching numbers. Picked it up for $350 at wanstall's, walked in to look around and couldn't help myself. Had to leave it at the store because my wife would freak out if i brought home another gun, she's going out of town in a few days and will bring home the rifle then.lol
Update, from what i can tell it's all parts mathcing including bayonnet, as well its got sharp riflling. The inlet was filled where the scope mount use to be and seems to still have cosmo on it so i don't think it was shot much or at all since it's been refurbished.

OP, the bent bolt doesn't make it an ex sniper.

Several different reasons why that bent bolt handle might be there.

The easiest way to assure it's an ex sniper is to look inside the receiver for the mount screw holes. They're usually welded over on the outside and ground down flush. Sometimes it's done very well and it's difficult to see.

There should also be another number on the left side of the bbl that has been stamped over.

Other than that, nice rifle, enjoy

It does have the holes and the wood where the scope mount would be located has been filled with a piece of wood. The boys at Wanstalls are pretty good and the sales rep was pretty knowledgeable. When I bring it home I’ll take more pictures, I’m curious to know more. Regardless I’ve wanted one for a while.

If you redrill the scope bracket holes, you can remount the PU scope that it originally had. There are many available on Ebay. They can be a pretty accurate shooter when setup properly.

Nice score! How is the bore on it? I've owned a few Ex snipers and they always tend to make awesome shooters. I currently own a 44' Izhevsk Ex-sniper that has an excellent bore, smooth bolt and is very accurate. Probably helps have some extra time being worked over at the arsenal to become a PU/PE/PEM

Just be careful that Exsniper doesn't lead you to an Ex-Wife..... lying to her about what you buy and keeping secret will have her doing the same.....

I also bought a Mosin without telling the wife. I eventually just told her as I had to keep hiding it when I went to clean it and and such. Much easier to just tell her and have her mad now. Or else when she does find out she will be mad you bought it, and mad you lied.

That is of course unless you have a comfy couch :)

My wife isn’t that bad, she doesn’t care if I buy stuff but this is the third one in less than a month so I’ll sneak it in and eventually tell her.

LOL. I did the same thing. My run ended with a Mosin M38, I wasn’t going to buy anymore but I hadn’t been looking for an m38 for a while and when one popped up in an M38 stock I had to buy it

I blame it on Wanstall's, they also had a S&W model 10 that i wanted lol. mmmmmm revolvers

So hard not to buy everything. I have my eye on a Jericho 941 in 9mm or a scorpion evo 3 for my first restricted but time to save for a bit

I know the feeling. I just got 2 new rifles and I saw a 3rd one I want. I knew I was pushing it with 2 in a short period of time but my wife would smash the 3rd one over my head if she found where I hide it....

Rifles and wives

Wive's and new rifles:

If your wife can tell you have a new rifle when you bring it out to clean it then.....

#1. You don't have nearly enough rifles if 1 more is noticed.I mean this seriously:rey2

#2. You need to add something foul smelling to your rifle cleaning regimen. She will make you clean your toys out of her sight and smelling range, Viola! no need to sneak anything in.

Old guy advice to you sensitive younger guys.

My plan is road proven now for 40 years, only hiccup was the registry years when those damn envelopes would show up in the mail and were then placed on my plate at dinner. those were very dark days indeed.:( I had to do some fancy dancing selling one rifle to allow the purchase of another. there's where tip #1 really paid off, I had some extras I could sell when a Holy Grail showed up. So think ahead and go buy a spare Mosin:p for tough times down the road.

If your wife knows (or cares) enough to recognize one rifle from another you're doing pretty well! Maybe she should be introduced into the sport and then the only problem when you get a new gun will be that she's jealous and wants one as well!

Congrats on the Mosin - I'm unsure how I feel about paying extra for what a Mosin 'used' to be... But if they're more accurate as a rule then I'd understand. I don't own any Mosins so forgive my ignorance.

i buy all kinds of stuff without telling my wife (right away)

I NEVER lie to my wife but I regularly delay giving her all the details

OP Nice Rifle. Most ex snipers have been refitted with straight bolt handles when refurbished, this one I guess has been omitted. Does the bolt match?

Anyway regarding wife situation. Why is it so hard to explain that purchase of a firearm is an investment. What other stuff keeps its value or appreciates with time in this country? Aside from real estate no other crapola you buy keeps its value, only firearms do. So go ahead and tell your wife you made an investment, not expenditure.
Don't tell everyone this, It may ruin some people lol :)
