Hi all

My partner is about to start shooting now that she has completed her firearms safety course.

I was wondering if anyone could suggest a non-restricted 5.56 rifle that is as light as possible, magazine fed and preferably not front heavy.

The Ruger Mini 14 and Kel Tec RDB have come to mind.

Su16. They seem to be hit or miss in quality. I have had one for a few years. It has been excellent, very reliable.

A buddy had the pistol version and it’s a hunk of crap. Complete jam-o-matic.

Light weight and reliable, acyually yes SU16.
Mind it feels incredibly cheap, and the lightness comes at a price if she is not used to shooting.
The recoil and noise of such a lightweight thing might backfire and get her to shy away.

AR180B already mentioned.
Light but a litle more friendly in the recoil sense for her.

Are you suggesting because of strength or for backpacking maybe?
What about a Type 97?
Having the center of balance closer under the armpit and the compactness, you might want to ty a bullpup for a 'fitting'?
Tavors too. A touch heavier and chunkier, but for some reason there is a magnetism of women to bullpups.

Hmmmm,

Sorry, won’t help you with your shopping list for named prohibs.

Yet another saddening & ugly facet of malicious gun-control is the way it makes "established" firearm owners wary-of & unkind-to "newbies".... :(

Gun-control truly is an insidious & cancer movement... :yingyang:

Modern Sporter?

Alberta Tactical Rifle Supply makes a receiver set that is similar to an AR15 (accepts all the same components) but is not compatible with an AR15 receiver. So when it is built with an 18.5+ inch barrel it is non-restricted. It can be built lightweight but the price tag can become very heavy. Just over $1000 for the receiver set and about another $1000 to buy the rest of the parts. But the quality is top notch! Plus, it's about a 1 year wait for a receiver set IIRC.

Yes I would like to know more because Modern Sporting Rifle (MSR) is a common term where as the Alberta Tactical Rifle Supply Modern Sporter Rifle is a specific rifle.

"Firm believer in the non-aggression principle", lol you clearly don't think being passive aggressive falls under that principle.
