Sk long range

With the growing interest in long range shooting with .22LR, it's small wonder that ammo makers seek to provide a product made specifically for it. But what makes this ammo better than any other? At a factory rated 1100 fps, it has a little faster MV, which will give it a slightly flatter trajectory than SV ammo. Standard velocity SK ammo is factory rated at about 1073 fps. In all cases, actual MV will vary by lot number and individual rifle.

Of course the key to accuracy at any distance, whether it is 50 yards, 100 yards, or more is a low extreme spread. The further out the target the more important this is. At 100 yards, a 10 fps difference in MV between one round and another produces about 1/4" of vertical spread. At 200 yards, a 1 fps difference in MV between one round and another produces 1/10" of vertical spread, a 10 fps difference results in 1".

There's nothing to indicate that SK Long Range ammo has a smaller or more consistent ES than any other SK product. Some lots will be better than others, but this is true of any ammo variety. Without a consistently low ES, this ammo will be no more accurate than any other ammo without a consistently low ES.

ES figures for SK Long Range reported on RFC are at best 40 fps but more is usual. Perhaps that is adequate for PRS shooting.

I’m not sure if this is just marketing or if they have done something. A lot of guys like the eley force for long range, it doesn’t like my particular gun but I am curious if this is just re branded so match juiced up a bit or if the hype is worth it?

I think I read somewhere that it’s a different bullet that is better suited to long range. I’m not sure if that would mean a better BC or something that helped it stay stabilized at lower velocities.

**EDIT**. Just googled a picture of the round. The bullet appears to be the same as Standard Plus

Well looks like I need to make a trip to Nordic and get some if available. Inquiry made. If successful, a range test.

Not sure if it is even in Canada as of yet, haven’t heard anything, just a spec sheet that was no different than any other sk product

Certain lots of 22 rimfire do exhibit low ES. I have about 2½ bricks of an older lot of unplated PMC Zapper HV.
I won a 100M benchrest match with this lot of HV amm, and one is not supposed to be able to do that with HV
22 ammo.

I decided to run some through my Oehler 33, to see how consistent it is. Imagine my surprise to find the ES in
single digits @ 1310 average in my 24" Remington 541T.

In my personal experience, it is quite rare to find such low ES in ANY 22 rimfire ammo, regardless of cost.

A present lot of ELEY Match EPS [Black Box] that I laid in a quantity of is also very good, and I have proven it
by shooting 5-shot groups under 1" at 200 meters on several occasions when it was very calm. A 10 shot group
at 200M measures 1.12", which is quite good, IMHO. In my 40X, this ammo holds the IR50/50 high score here.
Dave.
