With the growing interest in long range shooting with .22LR, it's small wonder that ammo makers seek to provide a product made specifically for it. But what makes this ammo better than any other? At a factory rated 1100 fps, it has a little faster MV, which will give it a slightly flatter trajectory than SV ammo. Standard velocity SK ammo is factory rated at about 1073 fps. In all cases, actual MV will vary by lot number and individual rifle.
Of course the key to accuracy at any distance, whether it is 50 yards, 100 yards, or more is a low extreme spread. The further out the target the more important this is. At 100 yards, a 10 fps difference in MV between one round and another produces about 1/4" of vertical spread. At 200 yards, a 1 fps difference in MV between one round and another produces 1/10" of vertical spread, a 10 fps difference results in 1".
There's nothing to indicate that SK Long Range ammo has a smaller or more consistent ES than any other SK product. Some lots will be better than others, but this is true of any ammo variety. Without a consistently low ES, this ammo will be no more accurate than any other ammo without a consistently low ES.
ES figures for SK Long Range reported on RFC are at best 40 fps but more is usual. Perhaps that is adequate for PRS shooting.
