Guys, I've noticed that my scout rifle(.308 version) is a royal pain to open the bolt on with a round chambered(fired or not). Usually the bolt will close with no issue, though maybe one in 5 will feel really stiff when rotating it closed and locking up the lugs. This stiffness is always present when opening the bolt, and usually worse than the stiffness encountered closing the bolt. Once the brass is removed I can see an obvious scored mark in the brass on the side of rim that runs maybe 1/4 of the way around the rim that looks to be shallower in one end and running deeper to the other end of the scoring. It appears to my unschooled eye that this is maybe from the extractor not popping over the rim and just riding the edge of it. Do any of you more experienced guys here know of/have seen anything like this before, and if so, how did you fix it? I was hoping to use this gun on Thurs. for a goat hunt but I think I'll take the .375 instead as it is currently operating properly though the trajectory with 270 TSX's probably won't be quite as nice as the 150gr SST's in the .308.
Thanks, for any advice offered.
***Update, after not firing this rifle for quite some time I have decided to revive this thread as I am still having this issue with heinous bolt lift after chambering a round regardless of having fired it or not. Attached below(hopefully) is another picture of the chewed up edge of the case head/rim, I believe this is what is happening each time upon lifting the bolt up. I feel like this has to be the extractor doing this the brass, what else could contact that part of the case?
On a side note, who warranties Ruger in Canada? I may try to go that route if I can't figure this out myself.
