68gr (or so) .224 projectiles

I have owned quite a few mouse guns in the past , but the one I still have and use is one of the limited run , long actioned Savage BT112's that were brought in to Canada by a certain CGN member in the early 70's
This guy has forgotten more about long range shooting and ballistics and put more lead down a fullbore range than most of us will ever learn or do:cool:
edit: maybe I'll try some off those big long 75 grain bullets just to try them out!

I throated the chamber of your rifle so it will easily take the 80 gr Sierra. I used RL-15 and 4895 in the 80 gr tests.

If I was you I would try both the 80 and the 75 or 77 to see if the rifle has a preference.

I think I bedded your rifle, too.

Could be ,I think so!
I have never got serious with anything but the 69’s ,well because that is what we shot !LOL
It still shoots super but this winter it is getting dropped into a Neilson stock I have kicking around that fits me a bit better. :>)

Testing was with the Sierra 80 gr MatchKing, because that was the best target bullet for long range shooting. It worked very well to 1000 yards, with modest wind drift.
Loads that worked well were:
23.8 N-140
24.0 RL15
24.3 4895
22.5 BLC2
24.5 748
23.5 IVI powder in Mexican match

Velocities were 2685 to 2775.

None of the above powders, except the 748, was a canister powder. I bought my powders from Expro (IVI), Bofors RL15, and Olin (BLC2). I have no idea of how the speed of these powders compared to the commercial versions.
Start low and work up. It looks like 2800 fps would be about max with a 24” barrel.
