25-06

It's my new favourite, bought a used Howa 1500 last year on the EE and have taken a whitetail buck, antelope buck and a doe. I'm taking it again to Wyoming this year to hunt antelopes and if I make it to rifle season at home I'll be using it again. I have a lot of calibers in solid platforms but for some reason I'm drawn to my 25-06...

It shoots flat, accurate with low recoil.

I should not have let that one go.

It's actually1912 technology. Compare the 25-06 with 110 accubonds out to 400 yards with the new kids on the block.

It’s funny how some will crap all over the 25-06 ,but praise the .257 Roberts. My 257 R Ruger #1 RSI is a great Mule deer gun, and the 25-06 will kill Moose and Elk with no problem. One just needs to accept they are best inside 400 yards.

I get a touch confused sometimes by the high BC lovers, in .224 and .244 bullets with G7 BC's of .235 to about .270 are amazing and great to 1000 yards plus but a .257 or .277 caliber bullet with a very similar or identical rating is garbage?
The .25-06 is still a good round, perhaps better than it has ever been and if you want one you should have one, or whatever else turns your crank. Its none of my business.

Everyone has danced around this, so here goes...Years ago I had a M70 chambered in 25-06 with a Douglas heavy barrel. Shot like nobody’s business. Unfortunately, I had to part with it. Nowadays, I have a 257 Weatherby and it shoots very well also. Wish I still had the 25-06, but I’m perfectly happy with the Weatherby.

It's the only 25 I have as well...no complaints with 110gr AB's at 3400fps+

The 2506 turns fifty this year. As a factory round anyway. Half a century and still going strong. Almost a century if you include the wildcat times. I think its here to stay

The whole family from the 30-06 case are good. I have a Sako AV 25-06 in my safe, I happen to prefer the 270win for hunting. A .277 110 gr ttsx at 3400 fps is also a very flat shooting round.

Since this is a gunny site and trivia is important, the 270 WCF is based on the 30-03, not the 30-06.

I so agree ... I love my 270 Win too ... and the recoil in my opinion is quite manageable in a Weatherby Vangard Series 2 rifle (9.5 lbs with scope, rings, sling, etc.). I also have a 30-06 in the same rig ... also sweet. The bullet selection for .308" and .277" is very very good ... and that would be the only thing holding me back from buying a 25-06 in a Weatherby Vanguard rig to join the rest of my gun safe family.
