Why just Foreign Surplus? Why not new?

I am wondering why we all wait for overdue shipments of foreign surplus...
..Can't someone import *New* or *Current Production* ammo from the same manufacturers??
Not everybody is involved with the American war. Has to be an ammo factory somewhere wanting to fill an order for .308/.223:confused:

Might not be cheaper...but at least we will get some.
I would buy a 1000pc crate of *New ammo*, save the hassle of running around finding 4 boxes here and 3 there.....might save a couple bucks

For example... China North Industries. They make .308. I bet it is cheap. But it is new.

Obviously you are not in the ammo importing business, otherwise you would be more up to date on the international market place.

YES there is plenty of what you call "new" ammo out there, but most of it is not approved here in Canada.... One very well known line of ammo is in it's 27th month of negotiations for approval....

MOST world producers are making ammo for our neighbours to the south, .223, .308, 7.62x39, .50BMG.... just to name a few....

If you know of some ammo available at realistic prices, I will buy.... We have the means to purchase large numbers so let me know what you have

;) Well...ummm.. o.k you got me... I kinda know jack about importing regulated explosives...

But that is why I asked.
27 months...and no approval!! Wow..must be some hardcore regulations.

Lots of average Joes like me wondering where all the 100's of millions of rounds of ammo being produced are???

I'll check my 649 ticket..........

It will be interesting to see how or if the new ammo market moves when the current demand wanes. Clearly plants running at full capacity for military orders won't stay at the same capacity. However, I could see some potential for large volume sales.

People still remember when South African surplus .308 was as low as $.25 a round. Now they are grateful if they can find Winchester White box for as little as $.60 a round.

Having been starved for a while, I suspect the consumers will be buying cases of decent ball ammo at any fair price when the producers can supply it.

Yes, hopefully there will be world peace in the next few months:rolleyes:

But,yes. The best senario would be the world demand for such calibers will wane over the next couple years...and all the surplus we get to buy at crazy low prices will only be 1 or 2 years old:rockOn:

Something about no ammo allowed to be disembarked into the port of Vancouver and since it is Chinese ammo it can not stop at an American port on the way to Montreal. Makes it tough to bring in Norinco ammo. Also, apparently the price of Nork ammo has gone up quite a bit.

well, it's a hell of a long portage to drag the canoe all the way to bc, but fresh norc ammo at the end of the trail....who wants to carry the paddles for me?:D

NORINCO AMMO;
For those interested, our cost has gone up 70% from the costs of 3-4 years ago....
No ammo can land in the port of Vancouver....
Norinco ammo cannot be on any ship calling at any American port....
The only alternative open is to ship the ammo from China to Europe, Europe to Montreal or Halifax.... Very costly.

Someone will ask... So I will do it first:cool:

So what does a case...1000 rounds or whatever.. Of Norinco .308 go for nowadays???? :D

The consumer decides if the price is excessive for his needs. We just need someone to offer it.

As my powers as a mind reader seem to be growing weaker, I'm just going to guess.

Chinese ammo is hard to import cheaply. It's percieved quality isn't high. Steel cased ammo is tolerated by SKS and VZ shooters, but many .308 shooters will turn there nose up at it.

For the time and trouble and ultimate retail price and dealer profit, there are other suppliers that can and likely are being explored.

Johnone mentions a 27 month process towards getting a new ammo approved. My guess is it's Privi-Partisan or Wolf, whom I believe have PP produce certain lines.

It sure would be nice to be able to stop treating my last case of South African .308 as my end of the world supply.

Privi would be nice.
I could get some 12.7mm API for my Bushmaster

"...12.7mm API..." You can't have that anyway. Incendiary ammo is evil.
Reloading makes the endless search for ammo go away.

Isn't Privi-Partisan already coming in (sporadically) via the Igman name ?

I believe right now, they are the Magna of the ammo world, making ammo for anyone with the cash.

Open question for Johnone about getting ammo approved. If a companies ammo has been approved, do they need to go through the process again for new product, new packaging, etc?

As an example, tons of the South African surplus .308 and 5.56 has come in to Canada already. If you or another importer wanted to import (PMP) Denel .308, would they need to be approved again if it was commercial packaging?

Then we would only have to deal with our import process for ammo, which to me seems rediculous. For a first world country we have to have the worst access to ammunition in the world due to government red tape.

Why is everything in this country so backwards?

someone must really want this brand approved.... Maybe they have a couple thousand cases sitting off-shore somewhere in a 3rd world country...;)
..lucky them if they paid 2003/2004 prices for it...:D
