Generic covers suck,
They don't all suck. Butler Creek makes pretty good lens covers, as long as you are able to find the right size.
Butler Creek covers are nice because they are easy to remove from the scope on clear weather days.
Here are a couple BC Scope Cover tips. If the caps makes a slight tick noise when they flips open, glue a tiny piece of foam on top of the cap, and if a cap is slightly too large, wrap some black electric tape around the scope tube to increase the diameter. Works for me! WK
I gave up on them as they seem to break too easilyX2
I just installed butlers to my 22 scope and they fit perfectly! No more sand, snow, rain and so on.
Preferably the screw typesTenebraex is OK, but nothing beats the slickness of OEM scope caps.
