Has the SKS become the Canadian shooter's equivalent of the Ford 150?

I've got one and I've literally never shot it I cleaned the cosmoline off of it and stuck it in the safe and haven't touched it since. Don't even have any ammo for it but it was cheap enough so why not buy one?

I’m sure the F-150 has a greater breakdown rate...

I’m going to go on a rant here... full size trucks are the biggest waste of money for most buyers. Yes, the cost is logical if you actually use it like a truck was intended. Thats cool. Unfortunately more than half of truck buyers use it like a daily driver... and are convinced they “need” it and sink down the deep hole of fuel costs and rampant depreciation for capabilities they hardly use. I see it day-in and day-out.

If most consumers were logical and need a truck once-in-a-while it’s best to buy a cheap used truck and plate it when needed... the “big three” make big bucks on trucks so they will continue to push sales, sink some more customers, and carry on. I see people everyday scared to death of being off warranty and spend $30,000 to $40,000 every 3-5 years to stay in warranty. There are no major mechanical repairs that will cost you that much money over the course of an extra 3 years after warranty expires (Diesel excluded) Spending money to save money is the dumbest thing I have ever seen.

Insert "Stop liking what I dont like" meme here.

It could be Canada’s revolutionary weapon if the Libtards get in. Say what you will about the SKS but I think that may be the gun they fear the most.

There are clearly some Canadian press-release writers in sheer agony that they "only" get to write about the SKS and not the AK's like their American counterparts.... :yingyang:

Some sort of weird, envious Canadian poli/journo inferiority-complex shining through? ... :canadaFlag:

Late 80s. There was a time that little ammo was coming in. So they went cheap. I remember SKS-Ds for $100.

I remember ads for SKS-D with black painted or somekind of bedliner on the stocks for $60.

But 3 Russian SKS's for $200?

When I think about it that was the time Type 56s and 84s started coming in. Maybe moving them out. I used an inflation calculator that suggests that a $467 in today's funds.

Go to a gun show. Go to a gun shop. Go hunting. There are SKS rifles everywhere. Accessories galore. People buy them even if they don't need them. Is this the Canadian shooting community's equivalent of the Ford F150?

With regard to common-ness and popularity, probably. I personally think the SKS as it comes from the factory is pretty much the ultimate Canadian truck gun.... cheap enough and reliable enough to toss it behind the seat and forget about it, and it'll likely do what you need it to when you need it. I've offered to give a couple of them to friends and relatives as incentives to get their PALs.

I wonder how many Soviets are rolling in their grave knowing they've armed so many North American men.

I KNOW RIGHT! I get this all the time even today "Are u Russian?? No? Then take off that soviet uniform American" if the Russians are so irked by Americans owning and wearing their past, then why are they so quick to blow it all out Ebay for cheap with international shipping lol

I gave one to my oldest son as he PAL graduation present. he was pretty stoked!

Getting a Semi auto that uses the same ammo as an AK-47 is pretty big deal at 13

You ok man?

Also don't know who you talk to, I need to sell them some things though if they are paying 30-40 K every 3-5 years for warranty lmao.

I think most people are just to embarrassed to say "I like trucks that's why I got it now take a hike" so they try to justify a "need" for it.

Can I hunt in a Prius in SWO. Yah, is it easier in a truck? yup. Lol You don't see everyone out here buying base models they buy as much as they can afford lol.

I gave my buddy and sks for his birthday a couple years back.
ANYWAYS.. Reminds me, I need an sks. I want a VZ58 though... Hmmm! Lol

Hard to beat some of those 230 buck Turkish shorty shotguns.

#### yeah!
I drive a 2000 honda civic se 1.6l as a daily driver.
5 speed standard. I just rolled 400 km on 22 liters of fuel from my last fill up. That's booting around town too not highway  I'm doing all seals, water pump, timing, valves etc starting this Monday and new ignition system complete.

But my other vehicle is a piece of #### 2004 f150 with the god awful 5.4 triton. Cam phasers made of aluminum and wearing out, oil filter adapter seal (yeah great design on that...) oil lifters clogging in the valves, spark plugs spawling and snapping off in the garbage aluminum headers..... Plus average pickup fuel economy in real life bordering on 14 mpg combined they're an utter pain in the ass and pieces of absolute s**t these days.
The thing is I paid 3000 cash and fixed it myself. That's my approach. I always have a truck but I buy dirty old beaters and fix them, then kick the ####ing #### out of them for a couple years. I love having a pickup when you need one. I make money doing dump runs, going off road exploring with the kids, driving over trees and my kids like to throw rocks at it in the driveway for fun. I wash it once a year sometimes....

But 100% agree, most dudes buying 70 thousand dollar trucks drive them to the grocery store and back and couldnt flush a coolant system if their life depended on it lol
Driving around to Tim Hortons and the mall 24/7 burning 14mpg at a buck 30 a liter on top of 700 a month car payments for an unreliable piece of modern made #### pickup that wont make it past 200k km without major failures lol

Ever think he doesn't care if it wont go past 200k because he wont have it that long and will trade in for another nice new one because he makes enough money to always have a nice new 70k pick up ?

Seems very similar to the guys who build up nice AR's you always get some guy saying his SKS can do the same thing yadda yadda price yadda yadda

I do love me some SKS fun though. Take it up to deer camp because I don't wana drag up the anschutz

I love my SKSs... lots of fun and cheap...the LE of postwar era.
Slag them if you will, I think they're great.. BUT they will be the target of the Lieberals.. If they don't get banned outright, probable, they'll get moved into prohib...meaning decoration for your walls.
12class is merely slo-mo confiscation
BTW- just heard a clip of Jagmeet saying the DIps would absolutely support a handgun ban.
