Got out with a Walther PPK 12.7 today - other 12-7 recommendations?

So I got out today with a Walther PPK 32 that I finally convinced my father to transfer to me. It was a very different shooting experience with such a compact gun after only shooting full sized plus guns. Made me really regret not making the effort to get the 12.6, and made me even more jealous of you guys that have them.

The Walther is a neat little well engineered gun. Hard to believe they crammed a safety and a decocker into such a small package. It shot pretty well too with minimal problems. Very soft shooting in 32 acp but I hear they are a handful in 380 (which doesn't exist pre '46 i believe).

Anyway the experience got me interested in looking at other 12.7 options. Any one have recommendations for other pre '46 12.7 guns that would be worth trying to acquire?

Nice one gdawg! The K looks in great shape too. Did the hammer bite you?

I believe you can only acquire a 12(7) from your kin. So you need to rummage thru your dad’s collection for what else you may want. Or have him buy a 12(7) eligible 12(6) first and transfer it to you after.

If you go this route, then I agree with geologist and M1. The CPP and the FN 1910 are really cool but I love the Beretta 1934! I would add the Mauser HSC to the list.
Also get a Baby Browning in .25ACP for poops and giggles! It’s really small!

None of them will compare well with your modern guns. The sights on all of these are baaaad!

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll keep my eyes peeled. I think that Beretta 1934 would be good to add as a start for sure.

No bite, Still Alive. Agreed the sights weren't great but i was shooting pretty close in. Yes it will be a bit of a circular route to get anything so we'll see what's in the realm of the possible.

The Baby Brownings are not pre 46 so they are not 12(7) eligible.

Based on what I see this is a really nice collectible ppk worth in the 800-900+

I suggest to buy a refinished 12.7 ppk or pp for 250-300 on the EE to shoot with and make this one your safe queen.

Very cool Gdawg, I'm jealous.

The X6 sitting there really puts the size in perspective. The barrel of the X6 looks like it weighs as much as the entire PPK!

Interesting. Didn’t know that. The ones I’ve seen belong to 12(6) owners so didn’t check for dates of manufacture.

I had a Baby Browning but it was post 46 so I couldn't 12(7) it to my brother.

We have done a bunch of others from my list above.

I love legally keeping guns from being destroyed by our commie government.

That lil’ AMT .380 brings back memories. Too bad it isn’t 12(7) eligible. And is that the Beretta Jetfire with the pop up barrel?

Gdawg, wish you the best in your hunt! If there’s anything you are interested in that is 12(7), let me know. I have a local friend who has a ton of 12(7)s, some with Dirty Birds. Let me know if you have something specific and I’ll ask him if he has one and willing to part with it.

Thanks Still Alive. I may take you up on that. I’ll be out your way in the not too distant future. A Baby Browning would be cool. I have a line on a Colt 25 I was told is similar so we’ll see if that comes through.

Thanks TT. Yes the PPK made me realize how big those target pistols are.

Coming for grouse again?

For sure, let me know and maybe I can get my friend to show you his collection. I guarantee you will be impressed!

Not grouse this time but definitely ducks.

Interesting, thanks. How can you tell? I should probably do a little more research.

Yes it's a Jetfire 950B (no safety), 8 round .25 ACP magazine and is safe to carry in Condition 3 so it's a 9 shot single action. It's very reliable and I think it's a way better pistol than the baby Browning.

I'm in the same boat as you are. I'm always looking for something neat that's 12-7 eligible that I can save from the smelter. I know the early baby browning is on my list, as well as a luger, and a PPK. I would check out the Saur 38H neat little pistol. For its age I believe they were a bit ahead of their time. It also features a decocker and its striker fired unlike the PPK.
