Like 99.9% of Canadian gun owners i'm strangely aroused by the thought of Concealed Carry for everyday life.
along those lines i have a good friend who is from Texas and still lives in Texas who i have known for well over 20 years, interesting fella.
he is a traveling repair man for a tech company, works on some big printers or something.
at any rate he wears a suit and travels around - which in and of itself is not very interesting.
but that fact that he does so with 2 CC pistols on him every day i find mystical and magical!
he carries his primary on his waits and a back up ankle revolver.

I'm not gonna lie, insanely jealous and i don't even know why!

So recently he had the misfortune to drive smack into those floods down by Houston when he was on a work trip and his vehicle got swamped and he had to leave it behind and the vehicle of course was a write off as well with all his tools and laptops and such that he uses for work.
We where chatting last night and he was telling me about the claim he was in the middle of itemizing for his insurance company and right smack in the middle of the list he says 'Sig Sauer'
and i was like.... wooooa there, your claiming one of your pistols as a loss!
he laughed at me and said of course, it was submerged and left in water and is a write off.

just the thought of claiming a CC pistol on a insurance form i found funny, but the conversation that followed i found super interesting.
he was a little miffed because they no longer have the pistol he lost and he was upset and he said he would probably have to move up to a 9mm.
i was surprised by this.
i asked what caliber he carried and was shocked to learn he carried a 380.
when questioned about this he said he carries a 380 because he does not want to have to worry about rounds punching through walls in a hotel and hitting someone unintentionally.
dosnt care about stopping power, dosnt care about velocity and wound track damage - his only concern is the liability of rounds punching past its target and hitting someone unintentionally.

im gonna be honest, thought has never..... EVER crossed my mind.

afterwards i was thinking about our conversation and i found it funny that as a person (me) who is not allowed to CC but wishes he could all i can think about is hitting with big super zippy rounds that transform into a brick wall once they penetrate and leave a wound track like a freight train!
the person that has CC his entire life's only concern is liability of stray rounds.

thank you for listening to my share, my name is WUN and im a Gunoholic.

and if your interested in what he is picking up for his new CC it is this Sig P225-A1 Nitron Compact.

I kind of jumped when I understood he had left a gun in his car..., then the location came back to mind :).

What caliber was the back up revolver? A .22?

I’m surprised your friend left his .380 behind when he abandoned the vehicle. I would have considered that a SHTF situation and I would have made sure my primary was with me and not drowning in a car.

my brother use to live in Texas for a couple years and he would send me my birthday present and he would wrap it in walmart flyers that has Glocks and AR's for sale for dirty cheap.
he would do that on purpose just to tick me off.

that was in the years before mass shootings, not sure if walmart in texas still carry guns.

Im kinda jealous of you buddy. These Sig P225 are really sweet. I have small/medium hand and i find P226 to be a bit large for me. But the P225 oh boy these are just perfect. Shot about a 100 rounds with one and i fell in love. Id probably carry one too if we were allowed to CC.

I've done a few pistol courses in the US, and most spend as much time talking about civil and criminal liability as they do pulling the trigger.

Most stress that brandishing is the last resort, and actually pulling the trigger should only happen if you feel beyond a shadow of a doubt that your life is in danger.

Non-gun people have the idea that gun people are all nuts and looking for an excuse to shoot, but my experience has been the exact opposite.

For what it's worth, I'd likely look at the Sig P365 for carry, if that could happen. I have my NH carry permit, but for some reason they won't accept it in ON... Weird.

Walmart's going full Virtue Signaling Fuddtard nationwide down here. You can get better deals online and shipped to your neighborhood FFL anyway, especially if you look for police trade-ins.

I'm kind of an oddball, I'm reluctant to carry or even own a gun where I didn't either build it myself or personally know the smith who did. May make an exception for that Cimarron Wyatt Earp Buntline, though...

Which reminds me, I've been meaning to start an AMA thread and invite anyone else here who has CCW creds down here to join in too.

When I lived in Utah one of the old timers I shot with was strapped head to toe at all times. .40 in a shoulder holster, stubby .38spc on the waist or ankle, 21a bobcat in the wallet. His rationale was that in an active shooter scenario he could pass off the .38 or the .22 to another friendly. I always had doubts about putting a loaded firearm into the hands of someone unfamiliar with it/that I dont know and trust in a high stress situation but to each their own. Given that his mantra was "you should always have guns nobody knows about" it wouldn't surprise me if he had a derringer or two hidden somewhere.

All a bit much for me, if we could CC here I'd probably just stick to a 71 beretta or a small frame centerfire. If it were shtf chaos on the streets I'd probably switch to my old frame safety model 92.

If I was down south I imagine I would like the idea of carrying CC much more then I would actually like doing it. I could see myself trying it out for a week or two before getting annoyed with it, then tossing said pistol in the glove box of my car and that would be it.

After that it would be a special occasion thing like visiting Detroit or going down to New Orleans.

as much comfort having the means to defend yourself provides you, there is NOTHING better than taking off the holster/gun and dressing down when you get home. Now that is comfort.
However I do carry 99% of the time I leave the house and staying in USA. If im heading back to canada, no guns obviously..

.

How would you protect yourself in the event of a home invasion? Have firearms strategically hidden throughout the house?
