Similar douchebags have always been around. They've been a thorn in the sides of firearms enthusiasts ever since I can remember noticing such things and the comments about it.
As for the SKS, I've used a couple under stressful conditions, as a weapon of choice and IMHO, they are not only adequate for their intended purpose but excel in the right hands of people who are familiar with their limitations. I've hunted with them and find them lacking for they type of hunting I like to do.
Considering what went into its design and how much it would cost to make them today, the SKS and its variants are a bargain and so is the surplus ammo that is available.
People turn their noses up at them because they are common and cheap. Also because they are so easily affordable some rifle snobs thumb their noses at them and call them all sorts of derogatory names.
The same things used to be said about Lee Enfields, Mausers and anything else that was milsurp. Some people still curl their noses up at anything milsurp.
Cyclone is absolutely right, anything that irritates Bill Blair is to be pursued.
