as for the m2.. i was concerned about it functioning with reduced recoil as well as lighter skeet loads.
spent an afternoon testing a bunch of different loads from slugs ,00, #4,6 & 9's along with some reduced recoil
winchester law enforcement duty stuff.
it surprising ate in all without a single stoppage. (m2 tactical model with ic choke)
I have an AR15 in the safe which would be my first choice for HD for either me or my wife. With 10 round pistol mags loaded with 50gr Speer #1029. I plan to build a mini safe for my bedroom...it's not super helpful having all my guns in the basement while I sleep upstairs, eh?
I've thought about building another upper in 300 BLK with a 10.5" barrel and get some frangible 110gr ammo.
I think the best bet for an off the shelf NR firearm would be either a JR carbine or Ruger PCC in 9mm.
I know what you mean with the crime rates...there's even been machete car-jackings in Lethbridge.
Also worth considering is that 14" barrelled shotgun are obnoxiously loud and blasty in an outdoor setting, indoors touching a round off would be stunning even with earmuffs on.
This is why I don’t post much on this website cuz there’s too many rude “armchair experts like you “ I delete posts because LE also read this forum ! In 50 years I’ve acquired too much to argue about “what I know “ with an “expert” like you little boy . You’re a legend in your own mind like your hero Rommel . Dumb ? Is that why I skipped a grade in high school and have a 4 point grade average in College including pilot of the year with a 90% on my commercial pilot’s licence( with multi engine rating and float endorsement ) Troll ? I also presently hold an ATC . Consider yourself blocked . You probably didn’t even understand the RCMP link I provided !
You seem like you'd be a ton of fun at parties.

Damn straight they’re loud, I find my 12.5” and 14” barrelled shotguns loud outside and I wear ear pro whenever I’m shooting a gun. I don’t think I’d want to experience that indoors without ear pro on. Muzzle blast would light up the place as well.
When I bought my 12.5" bbl in person at Dlask's shop, they test fired it before handing it over to me, and even though I was in another room with a closed door between us it was pretty jarring and got my ears ringing, and I'm fairly certainly that they were only using birdshot.

Your heading in the right direction, although my choice would be for something in the 5.5" barrel like the SIG Rattler
When you look at the 300 Blk, it really shines with 110gr or 220gr subsonic, even without a suppressor, mild recoil, and accurate out to 100m.
