Benelli M2 Entry? Tiny Wifey

I have an AR15 in the safe which would be my first choice for HD for either me or my wife. With 10 round pistol mags loaded with 50gr Speer #1029. I plan to build a mini safe for my bedroom...it's not super helpful having all my guns in the basement while I sleep upstairs, eh?

I've thought about building another upper in 300 BLK with a 10.5" barrel and get some frangible 110gr ammo.

I think the best bet for an off the shelf NR firearm would be either a JR carbine or Ruger PCC in 9mm.

I know what you mean with the crime rates...there's even been machete car-jackings in Lethbridge.

...or you could pick up a firearm designed for use by 'second tier' individuals - an NR M1 Carbine would certainly work for a small framed person, and will definitely do the job at across the living room ranges.

as for the m2.. i was concerned about it functioning with reduced recoil as well as lighter skeet loads.
spent an afternoon testing a bunch of different loads from slugs ,00, #4,6 & 9's along with some reduced recoil
winchester law enforcement duty stuff.
it surprising ate in all without a single stoppage. (m2 tactical model with ic choke)

Yeah I've been surprised with my M1 for the same reason. Though I imagine if it were brand new with stiffer springs it may be a different story.

Your heading in the right direction, although my choice would be for something in the 5.5" barrel like the SIG Rattler ;)
When you look at the 300 Blk, it really shines with 110gr or 220gr subsonic, even without a suppressor, mild recoil, and accurate out to 100m.

I've heard it from some very knowledgeable Benelli guys that initial break-in using heavy loads is crucial and that some inertia guns will reliably cycle light loads even held loosely at the hip.

On the other hand, a gun that's not broken in properly is likely to only be reliable with full powered buckshot at a minimum, especially on the Tactical models which have stiffer action springs.

Also worth considering is that 14" barrelled shotgun are obnoxiously loud and blasty in an outdoor setting, indoors touching a round off would be stunning even with earmuffs on.

Damn straight they’re loud, I find my 12.5” and 14” barrelled shotguns loud outside and I wear ear pro whenever I’m shooting a gun. I don’t think I’d want to experience that indoors without ear pro on. Muzzle blast would light up the place as well.

This is why I don’t post much on this website cuz there’s too many rude “armchair experts like you “ I delete posts because LE also read this forum ! In 50 years I’ve acquired too much to argue about “what I know “ with an “expert” like you little boy . You’re a legend in your own mind like your hero Rommel . Dumb ? Is that why I skipped a grade in high school and have a 4 point grade average in College including pilot of the year with a 90% on my commercial pilot’s licence( with multi engine rating and float endorsement ) Troll ? I also presently hold an ATC . Consider yourself blocked . You probably didn’t even understand the RCMP link I provided !

You seem like you'd be a ton of fun at parties.

When I bought my 12.5" bbl in person at Dlask's shop, they test fired it before handing it over to me, and even though I was in another room with a closed door between us it was pretty jarring and got my ears ringing, and I'm fairly certainly that they were only using birdshot.

I bet, I remember shooting my 12.5”er out at the Abby range a few years ago and even under the covered roof on the 100yrds range I was happy to have remembered to double up with plugs and muffs. Nothing exceeds like excess though, if you don’t hit the perp at least you’ll blind or burn them with the muzzle flash and likely make them deaf lol.

Damn I want a dlask...

My 500 with a 590 14" kit on it is fun as hell. Loud outdoors and gives a decent boom. One time at the range langley I was shooting buck and slugs and it was pretty loud and concussive. Not something i would want to shoot indoors.

But I'm sure an 18.5" or shorter .223 would be deafening indoors without ear pro as well.

Try reduced power loads. Stuff like Win Super X and full power Fed buck and slugs are brutal compared even to Score full power loads. Managed recoil stuff is quite a bit more tame. Even with an 18.5" bbl Super X 1oz slugs are loud, concussive and have a big flash.

I've got the 230gr Lee mold that was designed for 300 BLK. I've only used them on grouse, though, through a 300 WM with Trailboss. And I've got several 1000 IVI 5.56 brass, thanks to the local RCMP who use our range. So eventually I'll build one (also for cheap plinking) but I've got lots of non-gun priorities to accomplish first. I know, what could be more important than guns? When I ask my wife that she comes up with a big list...lol.

Think 20 gauge. If she is tiny, a 20 gauge would be the better option. Return to target will be faster with a 20 gauge. Buckshot from. 2 3/4 inch 20 gauge will get your attention.
