Hello all, I’m looking to put a barrel on my receiver and I am looking for the absolute lightest Non restricted barrel in 308 for my rifle.

I’ve been looking at Faxon and BSF barrels. The Faxon pencil is nice but it only comes in 20”. The big gunner is also appealing as there are some in 18.6”

The BSF is much more expensive and I’d be ok selling off a few pieces( not really, but you gotta do what you gotta do) to get a quality light weight product. The BSF fluted carbon fibre 18.6” is the lightest I’ve found.

Does anyone have experience with either of those manufacturers? Have I missed any?

The faxon isn't going to be a sub minute barrel. The BSF will outshoot it no doubt. Just be ready to pay through the teeth.

I thought the faxon pencil was awesome when I put it on my BCL-102, it was more accurate than the heavy stock BCL barrel and so lightweight. I would go that route if it was me.

I was getting 1.5"-2" groups with norinco bulk ammo which is really quite good. I never got around to shooting more pricey ammo through it.

There is also the Maple Ridge Armoury 18.6" Match 5R tapered pencil barrel. It weighs 31 oz, comes with an accuracy guarantee, has a lifetime warranty, is made in Canada and costs half what the BSF does.

My faxon pencil is shooting 1.5 MOA with Hornday 150 sst factory ammo. I think with the right load I could get that smaller. For hunting inside 200 yards its PERFECT.

My 6.5 faxon big gunner is shooting .96moa with 143gr eldx factory ammo.

Both barrels move some if I get them hot but really not bad but Im not a high volume shooter in these calibers.

Boith barrels with marring the brass with rough chambers. After shooting them a bit they have gotten better. Not any service from eagle supplies however. RDSC offered to look at them but i decided they would be fine.

Just make sure if you spend $500-800 on a high end lightweight barrel, you dont throw a 10oz muzzle device on it as well.

Cause science and stuff, the extra muzzle weight will give the most impact percieved weight to the shooter.

I received my Faxon Big Gunner 18.6 .308 barrel this week for my stag 10. only one quick outing and bout 30 rounds down the pipe but so far the accuracy i seen was 1.5-2" at 100 yards. Im working on a few hand loads ATM and will report back with some results, feel pretty confident I can get this thing to shoot about an 1 MOA with some hand loading. The biggest advantage so far is the 1 lb in weight that it shaved off the front end of the rifle. feels much better for off hand shooting.

Ive got one on mine and its awesome... very accurate, perfect fit and reliable. Headspace was tight with original stag bolt but ok with a Brownells bolt

been to busy to get mine finished but probably next week
thanx for the report on the mra pencil barrel. I have the Lantac enhanced bcg so hopefully the headspace works out for me. I also want to grab brownells titanium bcg but haven't ordered one yet.
