I looked at the carbon fiber type barrels but the price tag had me taking a serious look at what I needed my rifle for.
I'm not competing with it for prizes or dollars so it just didn't make sense.
I still wanted accuracy and weight reduction though, as the rifle will be used for hunting.
The MRA pencil barrel and handguard package seemed to fit the bill and the price of a carbon fiber type barrel, I got the barrel, handguard, gas block and tube as well as their defiant brake. Total weight of the maple ridge armory .308 5r pencil barrel/handguard package is 2lbs 14oz, gas block, tube and brake included. Cost for the package was 913.45 after tax whereas a BSF barrel alone starts at 800 before tax. made no sense to me for my planned use for the rifle when I could still make a lightweight build with the MRA pencil.
The rifle weighs in at 7lbs 4 ounces with lantac e-bcg, magpul buis , hogue grip and a magpul carbine stock.
I can shave some weight with a titanium bcg from brownells but I like the way it balances out right now.
My brother has a 6.5cm BSF on his rig so will be fun to shoot them side by side to compare cold/hot groups even though they are not same caliber.
