Why doesn't my shotgun work?

I agree with you which is why I said that people can spend their money how they wish and tradesman can charge whatever someone is willing to pay. My point is that if the gun had been maintained, which only requires a punch and 5-10 mins of time, there would be zero reason to have to go to a gunsmith. Basic cleaning of a firearm is taught during the safety course, is included in every gun owners manual and youtube has a video on just about anything. Firearms maintenance is a responsibility that comes with gun ownership. If a person cant figure that out....there are likely a lot more issues going on in that persons life. Not someone I would share a blind with, thats for sure!

As usual, I am in agreement with you!

"Firearms maintenance is a responsibility that comes with gun ownership."

Like owning and maintaining a car, or a chainsaw, or a motorcycle, or a lawnmower. There are some people I wouldn't lend a screwdriver, knowing it would come back bent and rusted.

I'm not sure what you mean by deductive reasoning but I'll try to draw an analogy that more people can relate to.
I clean my own guns but I'm not capable, motivated or equipped to overhaul the engine in my pick up truck, should I expect a shop to do it for free?

Some people can investigate as to why something is or isn't happening, like movement for example.

Some people can figure out why or why not there is movement, fix the issue. Others can't do it by themself. Quite simple.

Problem is people get offended about having to pay for service - which is what is being provided.

You're paying for experience not just the talent.

Agreed!

Never had one come in for a cleaning that was that bad. LOL I did have a Mossberg come in that wouldn't cycle shells from the mag tube, somebody had jammed a welding rod in the tube in place of the plug, removed the welding rod and replaced with a proper plug. It worked.

I really appreciate gunsmiths. But I was very much hoping for the "after" pictures. Just to bring closure. I'm not a gunsmith but every time I buy another used firearm I like to take them apart to see all the filth inside. I once bought a pump shotgun that functioned ok but was stiff to operate. When I took it apart it was packed so full of cedar pieces it must have been mounted along the side of a skidder. She was some smooth after it was emptied out
