Is there such a model and if not would this be something you would consider for additional cost over the tube fed models?

The Marlin 1891 (predecessor to the 39A) had a side loading gate. But it was discontinued in 1897 for reliability reasons. Now if you are able to find one that would be something!

I wanted one for years and finally saw one at a gun show about 6 years ago.

However the asking price was beyond what I was willing to pay (I don't even recall what it was).

Always thought it would be ideal in the gopher patch, so much easier to keep it topped up as compared to top loading a tube or reloading detachable magazines.

I found something that made me smile and heart stop at the same time

That Uberti 66/22 doesn t have a loading gate, the pic wolverine uses is that of a regular uberti 66.I have had one of the Uberti 22 66s and they are a real nice gun but are also very heavy in the sporting rifle version and the shell extractor is the weak point on them as they tend to break after a while in the rimfire version

Thanks for pointing that out.....the hunt continues

An old colt (lightning I think) had a side load thing.

Yeah, the .22 cal Colt Lightning Pump Action Rifle has a swing out section of the magazine tube, rather than a gate.
When the section is swung fully to the right side, it exposes the inside of the mag tube.

Honestly, loading 22 shells through a gate seems to me like a great idea only if you have fingers about the size of a half grown Pixie. What with having to push the rim of the cartridge in past the gate itself, in order to seat it in the mag tube, it does not cause me to wonder at all, that the makers all went with the tube and liner approach.
