most accurate rifle with factory ammo

I guess if you don't use it a lot

I'm sorry if I have somehow contributed to whatever is going on here in this thread, all of a sudden

If I could afford the rifles you have, I would buy them and use them as well! Nothing like nice gear!

I made myself stone cold broke buying a used M77 and a used Ziess, then having the rings lapped and scope mounted.

Now I see a stainless xbolt with a Leupold VX Freedom in the EE for less than my rig cost lol. My glass is obviously better... but still.

Although, it is a 30-06 and my M77 is a 7mm-08... and the 08 is cooler lol.

Have a great night man,

A few people have mentioned 6.5x55. I just recently picked one up, but in the context of the OP’s question I would definitely not recommend it. Factory ammo is limited in Canada and when you do find it, they’re known to be loaded light to accommodate some older milsurp actions. So while they’ll still shoot and you can probably find an accurate factory load, the cartridge really shines when hand loaded and so if you’re considering a 6.5 and are only going to shoot factory I’d say you’d be better off with a 260 rem or 6.5 cm as others have suggested. Despite having a similar to smaller case capacity, you’ll get better factory velocities for a given projectile and barrel out of the latter two. If handloading is on the horizon for you, then look into the 6.5x55.

Have a great night man,
not your fault, always someone who goes off on a tirade about how good their budget rifles shoot and there is no need to buy better quality. Like I didn't start out with lesser quality rifles and made up my own mind from where I wanted to go from there. Smh

Unfortunately that is life, always going to be that guy that has something negative to say about the car you drive, the house you live in, why you have two boats, etc. If simply saying what I use gets people that bent out of shape, maybe it is time they quit the internet

Well said.....could also be applied to 7x57...maybe 30/40, well documented in 45-70.

Many big bores, you get the most by handloading. For instance, when i bought my 375 rum, i bought dies and components. One box of ammo was $106; whereas, my cost to handload was 《$30. So pretty much any caliber available at Walmart, for the 《1box/yr shooter its factory. While a less common caliber, or anything over 30cal for someone who shoots, a reloading setup quickly pays for itself.

Well thank goodness! Because I just received my M77 in 7mm-08! I had the rings lapped and a Zeiss installed on her. I plan on using it and only it for the rest of my rifle hunting career.

Seems the consensus on the M77 is that it is an excellent rifle with a few haters out there... mostly folks who've never owned one. I guess you'll get that with any rifle.
M77s are excellent rifles, capable of great accuracy. Yours will very likely shoot very well. I'd ignore the guys with no real Ruger experience, comparing apples and oranges. If you're shooting factory ammo, you may have to try a few different kinds, but I'm sure you'll find something satisfactory.

I bought my youngest son a M77 708 for his first hunting rifle, a couple of years ago. He'd just gotten thru his Hunter's Ed and was super excited to shoot his new rifle, but had read some of the "6th hand Internet blather" and was nervous his gun wouldn't be accurate.

First range trip- I coached him a bit on shooting technique and form. Told him to pick as fine an aiming point as he felt he could see. He chose the bottom of a small diamond. He was pleased with his new rifle, right away. ;)

Wow... you bred yourself a fine shooter there my friend! :)

Yeah, I always feel a little bemused at myself for believing all the rhetoric online. It is a modern rifle, I'm going for minute of blacktail, not minute of angle. A tough design is more important than a tack driver for my uses... I think I'll make out just fine.

Thank you for the post!

Cheers man. It always sucks when the threads move off topic, then into a pissing match.

And you mention a very interesting phenomenon that seems to only take place online. And that is being annoyed at people for not using and loving the same item you have.

Imagine walking into a camp and being pissed off about somebody that is sleeping in a better tent then yours, and having the audacity to be using a different make and model rifle than yours or even in a different caliber god forbid!

that actually happens, I see posts on here about guys banning certain types of rifles, calibers and other things from their camps, carefull what you wish for

Haha. Thanks! He's a good shot, no doubt! :) IME with new shooters, with a little guidance kids and women will shoot better than men. As long as they aren't 'over gunned'...

I agree, M77s are a tough, reliable design. Good luck with your new rifle. :) Let us know how it goes.

I will indeed! I'll head out today and sight her in!

The Russians were onto the women shooting thing first I think haha

The M77 hawkeye in 7mm-08 shoots... she shoots niiiice. Good glass makes all the difference.

I sighted it in to 100 yards where I'm sure I could attempt MOA shooting, but instead went out to 200 yards and sighted her in there. That way I good for Minute of Deer at 100 as well

Woohoo! Congrats. :)

I too almost bought in that the Ruger's were not accurate until i tried one for myself. It was a Ruger Hawkeye african in 375 ruger and it shot factory ammo into 1/2"-3/4" groups at 100 yards. That was with Hornady DGS 300gr. Since then I've owned and own several ruger's. They're now one of my preferred platforms.

The one Im currently using is a hawkeye African 338 Win Mag that i bought on an impulse buy. I had it listed in the EE a few months back and im glad it didn't sell. Took the ad down, put a scope on it and this is what it shot with Federal factory ammo 250gr.
It does even better with my 225 gr Hornady Interbonds and interlocks reloads!

This rifle is not going anywhere now and has been added to the "DO NOT SELL RIFLES" list:)

Factory Federal 250gr @100 yards with 2-7x32 Bushnell Elite
