yea, it's a bad idea to let the slide drop full speed on a empty chamber- there goes your trigger job- and if you're anyting like me, you've got a mix of both 7 and 8 round mags-if it doesn't pop up after the last shot , you should find out why- sometimes it's the mag, sometimes it's the slidestop- i've been dealing with the 1911 in various forms for about 30 years and this is the first time i've ever heard of someone deactivating a slidestop on purpose- as far as the mag goes, i've found that you get good ones and bad ones, no matter what brand, etc- some drop free slick like butter, others just drop out of battery and you have to pull them out,and some throw cartridges by themselves- these i disassemble, and swap followers and springs back and forth until they work right- a lot of times the mag is a little rough or the spring works better backwards-and the mag lips just need a little massaging- take the mag apart, and squeeze the lips together by hand - no vise or tools or you'll break the lips
