Colt Failure to Lock Open UPDATE

the problem with slide stops, sometimes it works and sometimes doesnt, better deactivate the slide stops to avoid problem in the future, personally I dont like them to lock my slide. its better than prematurely opens even when there is still a round in the mag, worst, it will just cause other malfunction.

That's interesting. But doesn't it close the slide with an empty chamber, which I've always been told was bad?

I always wonder, "Is there another round left?"

yea, it's a bad idea to let the slide drop full speed on a empty chamber- there goes your trigger job- and if you're anyting like me, you've got a mix of both 7 and 8 round mags-if it doesn't pop up after the last shot , you should find out why- sometimes it's the mag, sometimes it's the slidestop- i've been dealing with the 1911 in various forms for about 30 years and this is the first time i've ever heard of someone deactivating a slidestop on purpose- as far as the mag goes, i've found that you get good ones and bad ones, no matter what brand, etc- some drop free slick like butter, others just drop out of battery and you have to pull them out,and some throw cartridges by themselves- these i disassemble, and swap followers and springs back and forth until they work right- a lot of times the mag is a little rough or the spring works better backwards-and the mag lips just need a little massaging- take the mag apart, and squeeze the lips together by hand - no vise or tools or you'll break the lips

FWIW - thats pretty much an old wives tale about it ruining your trigger job, many noted trained dont have a problem with it - ince 1911 builders...

The slide stop - in a fighting gun - it can save you precious seconds -- WTF would you disable it for?
