VZ-58L ammo problem

I assume you mean the base of the cartridge is sticking out. If the bullet was sticking out you have inserted the cartridge backwards. That said, it sounds like a tight throat/chamber, either from crud or a problem. Has it always done it? What ammo are you using?

My friend had this same problem in his SKS...so I checked it out and long story short the chamber was crusted with rust because it was never cleaned after the last outing.

i knew the 58L are new but you said it never been fired ....hmmmm. does the breach close without a round in the chamber? if it does then load a round by letting the bolt slam forward (do this at the range or use a spent casing).
i just inserted surplus ammo in the chamber and it stick out 4 mm .
the breach close completely without a round.
If i let the bolt slam forward, it will be impossible to retract the bolt (had to hit it with a hammer)
someone told me that the VZ-58 is made for military ammo and might not shoot hunting ammo.

A 7.62x39 cartridge itself is the same size whether it has a soft point bullet or a fmj bullet. Sometimes a soft point round may not feed correctly in a semisuto, but it shouldn't affect the cartridge once in the chamber.
I see potentially 3 issues that could be the culpret.
1. There's some sort of debris or dirt in your chamber.
2. You have a bad batch ammo.
3. Or for whatever reason, your chamber is undersized (doubtful.)
Like CanAm asked, what type of ammo are you using? Did you check the chamber for any signs of debris? Even though the rifle is brand new, the factory does test fire it for quality purposes, so, check for dirt, crud, rust, etc.

now try hand feed a round straight into the chamber and slowly close the bolt.
if you dont need a hammer to get the bolt back then everything is fine and the problem is cos by gouge/deform casing when slam forward.
to solve the problem you need to polish the ramp and the two side doo-hickies that is above the ramp, the sharp corner is catching the casing.

I have tried Federal and igman soft point ammo, the federal ammo go deeper in the chamber than the igman but not enough for the breach to close completely.
the chamber is clean and free of debris.
I inserted 50 rounds of igman and all have same problem.
Is there any other brand of ammo i can test? other than surplus ammo (still waiting for shipment from canadaammo

There is a mark around the bottom of the cartridge which is why the cartridge is not going all the way in. the mark is about 3-4 mm in front of where the extractor holds the cartridge

that mark comes from the casing hitting the right side of the piece above the feeding ramp, see pic where i point.
and then follow my previous instruction below but hand feed with a new ammo (uninserted one).
Mine eats everything no problem. I know the S.A. surplus case is a bit longer, but the case length of commercial federal brass, czech and norc is the same lenght and I think the bullet is seated to the same depth. Have your chamber checked by a gunsmith or send it back to Marstar. 3 or 4mm is quite significant.
I think your rifle should be returned, if the bolt will not close all the way that seems to indicate short headspace. The round should go into the chamber right till the rim. Your rifle appears to not have the chamber cut properly. Did your rifle come with a test target?
