Im sorry. Ill update this tonight when i get home from work. The gun shoots well, quite light and now i have a fixed 2.5x scope on it.
I was thinking about this rifle just this morning when i had to move it to fit other guns in the safe.
I built this to take goat hunting some day. Well since then the guy i knew who lived in northern BC house burned down in a wildfire, he now lives in the south
But im going to telegraph creek this June. I plan to bring this rifle. While i wont be goat hunting i do feel i should bring this rifle into the mountains as that is what i built it for. And if i see some goats while holding it, it would pretty cool.
One day i will take it goat hunting, i hope to get to know some people in telegraph creek so ill be able to do it a lot cheaper then a guided hunt

holy crap those pics are big, im not sure why. i cant hide anything from you guys lol, yes i did color those mount screws black with a sharpi for the pic and yes they are deffently not the screws ill be using when its finished.
well not so much more was done on it and i still have a little to do, i have soo many projects on the go it gets pushed aside a lot. i think it was April last took it out, ive been focused on my 460wm and 43Express for the last while.
the first scope mount i made for it (it was made of one piece the weld was for "cool factor") didnt give me enough eye relief, i had to hold my head way back from normal shooting location, that is the smaller one in the pic, the new one with more eye relief is the long one. (dont mind where i started to drill in the wrong spot for the mount bolt/ejector screw(i also plan to get new screws for the mount))
the scope i got off a lee enfield that i got on trade. its super light weight. the scope, mount and rings only weights 11.3oz.
the rifle as it sits now with scope, ready to shoot is 6 pounds 1.6oz (no ammo)
i plan to do a little more work on it until i get it to an OZ under 6 pounds with 3 rounds in it
i was thinking of changing it over to a mis matched no4 receiver i have and shooting for under 5 pounds with the scope but then i realized i have no time, too many projects and could start with a way lighter receiver to begin with. so under 6 pounds loaded is fine with me.
im also missing the hand guard ring that goes around the receiver and holds the wood down. i do need to find one of them.

Good work on yer 6.5 Swede LE project. 
I love the Enfields for doing up non-typical chamberings and they be uber reliable actions.
I done up my ones in .45 ACP and .32-40 Winchester. Huber triggers are what I use & they suit me well. The Brewer method is the best way to
fly for easy headspace setting for folks that love to tinker. All hail the barrel nut.

nice rifles, i was just looking at those in one of my other threads, i had used a old barrel and turned it down and soldered it in the as a liner and has it chambered in 32 h&r and we got on to talking about barrel nuts and you showed those nice rifles.
i love the barrel nut idea actually, and have a load of LE parts to use for these projects, ive collected to restore sporters
so far using LE and LM actions i have made up rifles chambered in there rounds using a barrel nut
25-20- using win 92 barrel
38-40- using a marlin barrel
44-40- using a win 94 barrel
6.5x55- using ag42 barrel
43 mauser- using 71/84 barrel
43 flanged nitro express- using a 71/84 barrel
6.5x53R- using Mannlicher 1895 barrel

That's a nice list of choices fer sure.
If I weren't on the "Wind down the rifle pile", then I'd have another McGowen barrel in .25-35 Win to switch outon me .32-40 LE for entertainment. Good thing about LE's is that one can get the parts to put together a real neat rifle that is a hoot to shoot & puts
goodies in the fridge & pests to rest without busting the piggy bank. Careful shopping & not rushing the the work being the key of course fer me.

Wow, Im so glad I bumped the thread. Very impressed by your scope rail build, is that steel or aluminum? I assume you put a piece of angle in a mill and got busy, clever work. You might shave off a bit of weight off the back edge of it and a bit off the safety lever? And get it to 6 even or just under.

Shellshucker, is that a brass adapter you built? Looks classy. Why 32-40 though? Seems like it would have less smack then the 303.

thanks, the scope rail is aluminum and yeah it was a price of angle i started with, i machined the inside to make sure it was square when bolted to the rifle.
the mount i have on there now only weights 2.1oz so it will be hard to really get any meaning full weight off it. but i will lighten it more and take off the corner as you shown in the pic. and a few holes above the ejector screw
i was thinking about the cocking piece, safety and probably a little more out of the wood. if i switch to a no4 bolt i can drill the hole out bigger in the bolt handle and thin the handle a bit as well. the mag is after market so i can skeletonize that as well
also i was thinking about narrowing the rings a bit and making aluminum nuts for the rings aswell
i am going to get it to under 6 pounds with 3 round sin the mag
as for the load i plan on using IMR4831 with a 129gr SST for the bullet, S&B brass
its not short cut so my powder thrower has a hard time with the small case mouth, so ill need to weight out each charge, or find a scoop that works

Yes, the locknut on that one I made from C360 brass round stock. I went with 32-40 because I love the cartridge for it's history, accuracy potential and easy reloading. Not worried about it's power potential as I use 'er mainly for plinking and pest critter splattin' using 165 gr hardcast loads to around 1400 fps or so.
It's a super pleasant unit to shoot. Rabbits and such are in danger out to around 200 yds or so.
I have a Win 1894 rifle in the same chambering, but the bore & chamber ain't the best, so I did up me LE pest bomber to compensate.
Interesting, I think I knocked full ounce off the bolt on my 788, made a slightly bigger/longer aluminum knob and took some out of the handle.
If that mount is Aluminum then like you said you don't have much to gain, other than maybe removing some obtuse ends or rounding the extremities. If the rings are steel you may save some weight narrowing them, but then I guess maybe you could also just get aluminum rings.
I ordered some titanium bolts for the scope rings, and steel wing nuts. The bolts were slightly oversized and I filed them down to square to fit snug in the picatinny rail. I looked for aluminum wing nuts, but eventually settled with steel. Overall about a 1/2 ounce drop for the pair. (Yeah I get it's not really significant)
You might save another ounce on that barrel band if you scratched up a replacement out of aluminum as well. I can see it being a bit finicky to build and not having a fastener strip threads though.
