Whats THE Ruger No.1 You Just Gotta Have?

No-one wants my S in .300H&H in the EE? Hahaha.

I think a No1 A 7x57 is a sweet thing. I also really like the S in .300H&H (I just need to let that one go for other hunting/outdoor purposes...)

9.3x62 or 74R with a heavy profile 22" barrel would also be sweet.

Didn't think I needed it but I bought a No.1B in 6.5 Creedmoor ( never used the cartridge but have always liked the appearance of the Ruger single shots going back decades ) and wanted to try the 6.5CR.

Remains unfired but hope to test with reloading components soon.

One question for the No.1 experts on the thread.Do you find the actions a little less refined compared to models going back, say 25 years.I used to shoulder and work the actions at the Kittery Trading Post in Kittery,Maine during my annual striped bass fishing vacation, and my recollection was that the actions seemed extremely tight and solid feeling.Again, this was going back over 20 years and my memory ( amongst other things ) is not what it used to be.

Any opinions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks all and enjoy the holiday season.

My go-to Number 1 is an RSI in 7x57 topped with a 2.5-8x Leupold.

Handy, accurate and has put down big game cleanly and with authority for almost three decades.

Other honourable mentions have been chambered in 45-70, .280 Rem, 450/400 NE and 303 British. The rifle seems to be a natural fit for classic cartridges that want to go hunting.

I liked those 45/70 anniversary number 1’s that prophet river brought in so much that I bought one. Great wood and nice gold filled engraving.

I would like a #1B in 257 Roberts.
It would match the Model 77 and the 77 Ultralight that I currently have.
I am sure that Hoytcanon could help with that someday.

As per Got Juice - wouldn't that be something! Especially if scaled a bit for the little rimfire round; no doubt could be sized for the 22 WMR and the Hornet, something like Ruger did for the 77/22. I have never worked out the rest of the dimensions for stock or sight line, but a scaled down to rimfire No. 1 would almost define "kewl"!!

I had a falling block .22 Magnum - Savage "Favourite" I believe - possibly 30GM or something like that. Octagon barrel. I did install a Lyman tang sight on it. But, it was kind of mickey mouse - obvious casting finish and casting parting lines on the parts, octagon barrel so skinny I was almost afraid to lay it down for fear of bending it, very poorly fitted wood stocks - forearm and butt stock not even close to being the same wood - not close to similar looking finish. The version that I had, had no provision to mount any kind of optic. Lots of opportunity to do better by Ruger, I would think! For some of us, $C 800.00 to $C 1,000.00 is not too much for a quality rimfire!

Would love to have a Lipsey's RSI in 6.5x55!

Too bad Ruger won't build these RSI's larger than 30 cal, or I would be getting one in either 338 Federal or 358 Win.

They have not ruled out .338 cal... but won't do a .358 again... gotta grab "1 of 25" from 1993.

Prophet River just hooked me up with my .460 S&W haven't got a chance to shoot it yet but I have been wanting one ever since I got the revolver in the same caliber.
