Hello CGN!

Having built an AR9 (restricted) QC10 Glock lower on 7.5"bbl. I wanted to maximize the Glock mag bucket and hunt down the best NON RESTRICTED carbine with the same mags and 9mm. So far the options I've seen so far are:

1. Ruger PCC (newest modular one that will come to Canada soon)
2. Kriss Vector 9mm
3. Freedom Ordinance FX-9

Am I missing some?

I'd go with the Ruger since you already have an AR9. I have an FX-9 and while it's fun, your shorter barrelled AR9 will be more fun to shoot, and I think it'd be redundant to your collection. The Ruger is pretty sweet, and the take down feature really adds to it's NR status appeal.

Liking my TNW Aero a lot, but out of the box it's a model which many users have reported is inconsistently reliable depending on ammo selection. I saw it from before purchasing as a tinkerer's gun, and I'm definitely that sort of end users so not a problem for me. Lots of tweaks and polishing in mine so far, and about to get an extra 3oz in the buffer weight once a stick of tungsten arrives in aid of slightly delaying blowback. I'm hoping ejection area filth can be reduced a bit. Mine's been very functional and accurate so far.

I'll go "no" on the NR Kriss. I've got both NR and R Kriss and while the Restricted one is super fun to shoot, the NR is just okay. It's too long and unwieldy compared to many other NR PCC's. But it looks really cool, for sure.

This is great guys! I was pretty close to buying the updated railed Ruger PC9 here at Cabelas, but looked online and noticed that the US modular pistol grip version just came out!!!

i enjoy the Ruger PC9 its nice to plink with and being a take down is a plus. I cant comment on the 9mm vector but if its the same as the .45acp it is unwieldy. as for the FX-9 i'v only held the original one they brought in at the Calgary gun show. it felt really nice. but i recall there was some issues with them out of the gate. good luck with your picking!

These things are reliable and an extremely simple design. There's nothing to them. They completley disassemble in a matter of seconds. This was new when I took the picture a while ago but it has about 5-6 hundred through it now without issue. My old TD carbine in .40 S&W has ~1500 rounds through it now and all it had was a firing pin break. It was a known issue with older ones but the updated firing pins won't cause a problem. TD makes a great carbine that is all to often overlooked probably because the original models were ugly plus they have a slightly higher price tag than some of the other NR PCC's.

The gen 1 S2Ks are hot garbage. Buddy had one, biggest piece of #### I've ever had the displeasure of shooting.

My JR carbine is great, as long as I clean it every 1000 rounds or so. It's in .40 though, not sure if that makes a difference in reliability?

I was looking at buying a sub2k, I wonder if the gen 2 is worth having?

I swore that I would not buy a 9mm PCC as I already had 2 .357 carbines, a Timberwolf pump and a 12" Henry lever.

Then I made the mistake of shooting my brothers Ruger PCC.........

Gen2's are dead nuts reliable, my buddy runs one in speed steel and IDPA PCC division, he has also used it in 2/3 gun tac matches lol. I have never seen that gun fail in any way and he loves it

I think the 9mm X95 is the best PCC even though it takes colt mags, you can get them in 10 shot and it’s by far the coolest other than the restricted offerings.

It’s a tall order to find a truly reliable pcc that is non-restricted AND takes Glock mags. Most of them I would class as “range toys” and would not stand up to adverse conditions and a heavy fire schedule. Essentially, my definition of “reliable” is whether or not I’d trust my life to it. Maybe that’s extreme for some, but to each their own.

I’d second the recommendation of the APC9. It is an outstanding firearm. It’s expensive and I don’t know if the version with the Glock lower has made it to Canada. You’d also need to get someone to make you a non-res barrel. The GHM9 is also an interesting option, available with a Glock compatible lower, although it might not be aesthetically pleasing with a non-res barrel.

If Glock mags were removed from the equation, I’d recommend the Scorpion EVO hands down. It is an extremely simple and robust carbine, designed for military service. It’s lightweight, has tons of parts and aftermarket options AND it’s relatively cheap.

Have not tried the 9mm Tavor, but presumably it too would be a good choice.

I've got a Ruger PC carbine. It's a fine firearm in terms of fit and finish. The polymer stock is the best I've seen on a gun so far. But it's got some glaring quality control issues with some cheap internals that Like the guy above me said, I wouldn't trust in a life and death situation like having to bug out or defend ones family in a worst case scenario.

My recoil spring is weak causing a weak bolt hold open that slams shut at the slightest of movement or weight shift of the rifle. Just tap the butt of it and wallah it's chambere. Needless to say I'll be getting a better spring from MCarbo for it and replacing the weaker and more wear prone parts like the magazine catch and extractor which are two major breakage points for the gun, that cause failure to feeds and stove pipes. Luckily I only have the one issue with the recoil spring.

For the price it's a great gun, and besides the slight quality control issue I'm dealing with I'd still recommend it as you can buy third party parts to improve or fix broken parts with the gun, some of which you can't find for other rifles in the carbine line up. The take down feature is great, I like the iron peep like site on it. And it takes glock or ruger mags. I'd give it a 7 out of 10 simply due to the problems my specific one has.
