After shooting an falling in love with my 1900 M96 Oberndorf Mauser, I purchased a 8 mm Vz24 Mauser Romanian contract as my second Mauser itch cure. After tearing it down found it to be stamped "41" on the receiver under the top hand guard, everything else I can tell is numbers matching. Now again for reason have become extremely attached to this thing and seems to be a neat old gal, it could probably tell a tale or two regardless of service or lack of. Disappointment set in after shooting it, the shear and barrel are both worn out. While the flag no longer cams over without incredible force applied. While at 100 yards the spread is 10-12 inches in the groupings, so lucky to hit the side of a barn??

I managed to source and purchase a couple nos shears on cgn here, as well as a nice 8mm barrel stamped with the circle z markings. Only difference I can tell is the machining on the rear sight release mechanism, otherwise still like new under the rear sight after cleaning the cosmoline out. The barrel has a couple scrapes from being bumped around over the years not being protected by a rifles stock and hand guard.

I would really like to shoot this rifle, however am worried that the rifle would be drastically reduced if the barrels are swapped even if the original barrel is kept with the gun? thoughts on this, or am I worrying over nothing? even over the past couple years have noticed a gradual climb in price for all of these milsurps regardless of make. thanks in advance everyone!

If you're asking if your rifle is worth to be preserved then you need to show pictures, including markings, crests, serials. Nobody can tell you for sure what you have without seeing your rifle. Description you provided is too general.

You lost me with "the flag no longer cams over" and "the shear".?????????

The wearing of the flag safety is a known issue with just about all the military Mauser's.

I too am confused about "the shear". Sear?

How worn out is your barrel? 10-12" 100 yard groups sounds pretty extreme I wonder if there are other more pressing issues with the bedding of the rifle. Are the screws tight on the action? Are the capture screws present or deleted? What is the condition of the crown of the barrel? I have shot some Mausers will pretty well worn barrels and they shoot surprisingly well.

sorry has been an interesting month or so, figured she shoots exceptionally low, have to raise the rear sights to the 300m marker to hit center at 50 yards..hopefully the album opens. after opening up the rifle a bit more, not sure what i am looking at as far as markings, seems to be a pile of them on the vz. also there are pics of the potential replacement barrel with its markings, not that it matters much but there if curious.

the swede is far from numbers matching rings and mag plate have been replaced. but a nice shooting unit, not sure of the history.

the capture screws are missing on the vz.

Your rifle is indeed Romanian contract, good thing she was not refurbished, bad thing is crest is scrubbed and rifle is mixmaster apart of stock and barrel/receiver. I could speculate that some collectors would prefer such rifle over any shiny Romanian refurb VZ24 and would not care much about accuracy. I would also speculate even bigger number of buyers don't care past "Mauser" or "Romanian" and do care about accuracy.

do you have a link or further info on what a guy is looking for in terms of numbers? i cant seem to wrap my head about the markings on this thing, any reasons for being a mixmaster? sorry i am just getting into what i would call a mauser itch.. and thank you for your response and time.

also any clue what the second barrel would be from? curious with the slight machining changes and markings. it does share the same two pin rear sight slide, however the ramp seems to be slightly of a different shape.
