After shooting an falling in love with my 1900 M96 Oberndorf Mauser, I purchased a 8 mm Vz24 Mauser Romanian contract as my second Mauser itch cure. After tearing it down found it to be stamped "41" on the receiver under the top hand guard, everything else I can tell is numbers matching. Now again for reason have become extremely attached to this thing and seems to be a neat old gal, it could probably tell a tale or two regardless of service or lack of. Disappointment set in after shooting it, the shear and barrel are both worn out. While the flag no longer cams over without incredible force applied. While at 100 yards the spread is 10-12 inches in the groupings, so lucky to hit the side of a barn??
I managed to source and purchase a couple nos shears on cgn here, as well as a nice 8mm barrel stamped with the circle z markings. Only difference I can tell is the machining on the rear sight release mechanism, otherwise still like new under the rear sight after cleaning the cosmoline out. The barrel has a couple scrapes from being bumped around over the years not being protected by a rifles stock and hand guard.
I would really like to shoot this rifle, however am worried that the rifle would be drastically reduced if the barrels are swapped even if the original barrel is kept with the gun? thoughts on this, or am I worrying over nothing? even over the past couple years have noticed a gradual climb in price for all of these milsurps regardless of make. thanks in advance everyone!
