The New Colt Python Officially Unveiled

It is still part of the timing process on the new Python. The idea was to differ the notch so drag line would be nearly non existent and consistent locking on the cylinder with keeping the notch skipping and wear at a minimum over a lot of use.

Of course it's still part of the timing. I meant it is less important where it is in the timing.... in other words, they don't have to be as precise.
When I time a Python, I aim at having the bolt hit the cylinder at 1/3 the distance into the notch. With notches that long on the new guns, it is less important. When a Python is timed right, there won't be any drag lines from shooting the gun. That being said, the majority of drag lines happen from closing the cylinder incorrectly.

Exactly, and that’s for any revolver. Timing specs are 1/3-1/2 to the locking notch at the ramp. A notch that would hit between the notch ramp would be seriously out of time and could jeopardize proper operation.

. That’s why hi mileage Python without periodic maintenance are showing this particular type of wear.

Which actually is not really condusive to whether the gun shoots well or not.... it's just marks on the cylinder. I've had some SS Pythons that had drag lines that were more like gouges than lines and as long as the timing of the lockup (ratchet/hand) was good, they shot fine.

Totally agree with you. A clean undamaged notch will ease the cylinder lock thus improve lock time in DA and put less “stress” on both ratchet and hand at full lockup before the break. The gun will show less wear and parts will last longer with heavy use.

I'd be more concerned about cylinder endplay than anything else on an old Python.
Lockup timing is pretty easy to fix just by peaning or replacing the hand and doing a little touchup on the ratchet but only if absolutely necessary. ( I hate having to file a ratchet) Cylinder endplay is more of a concern. Judging from the lack of cylinder stop on the side plate on this new gun, I'd wager that they came up with a new way of securing the cylinder to the crane and that will probably make endplay less of a concern with use

Is that the sound of another bitter millennial who couldnt afford to buy something nice that they wanted....? I like all my 'over-inflated' Colts, but my retirement is actually a portfolio managed by Jarislowsky Fraser. It's up enough this year I could buy a few dozen over inflated bright stainless Pythons. How'd your investments do, snowflake?

ouch thats too bad man

If it isn't available in the Royal Blue I doubt I'd be interested. That was half the mystique. I have yet to find a Colt revolver that is comfortable in my big paw.

I don’t have a reliable source for this at the moment but supposedly a blue finish version of the new Python will be offered at a later time. The question is if a blue finish is offered, will it be a coated stainless, a true carbon steel with a polished blue finish, will the blue finish be on par with the original Royal Blue Colt offered back in the days or even on par with the actual Colt blue of today? Would they list for the same MSRP or more?

If it’s a hit and these sells like hot cakes, presentations, special editions and commemoratives could also be offered down the road. Engraved and gold inlaid Python anyone??

Looks like there’s “unlimited” supply to come! Looking at Bullseye’s web page they initially had 25 of each barrel lengths available a couple days ago. They’ve reloaded the availability a few times since then and now have 41 6” and 16 4.25”!

Wondering if North Sylva or anyone in the know could tell us how many will come in the first batch scheduled for late March?

Based on the quoted $1499. On the video, I am hoping IRG or another site sponsor will bring them in at $1999. Cnd. Based on .33 exchange. Or in ORG's case $1499. Usd. The more videos I watch and with you knowledgeable guys discussing it, I am more into wanting one. I will still wait a good while,,, next fall probably to see how they fair out and price wise, but they look nice and seem strong.
