Reasons for owning a dangerous game rifle in North America

Do it....., you wont regret it..

Hunted extensively in Africa, and started off with a 30-06, then an opportunity came up to hunt the Zambezi Valley...., needed a .375 and have never looked back. In fact my 30-06 never came out of the safe again.....ive used my 375 on small to big.....what an awesome versatile calibre, especially if you reload....

I like them, 458 375 8mm mag 338 mag etc You always find them in beautiful condition Can't beat the old Browning's

OP, you are maybe overthinking a bit - don't need a "reason" - take a "punkin chucker" with iron sights and go shoot gophers in the pasture - my 458 Win Mag with 500 grain cast lead over Unique or other reduced load powder is a "hoot" with iron sights - occasionally, I do actually hit something on purpose - no need to use $5/each factory loads, unless you need the sinuses cleared out. Right up there with blazing away with a 50 caliber muzzle loader using "holy black" - in a gopher patch - makes no real sense - no "reason". But neither does $90,000 pickup trucks, and many other "modern" things...

I don't consider the .375 a "dangerous game rifle". It's a general purpose medium bore that can step up to the plate.

Precisely.

And if you’re ever tracking something nasty that is fully capable of turning you into two pails of goo, the .375 H&H will feel on the “small side”.

I would recommend buying at least one big bore..
BUT just one..... or2 , if you like the rush , move up the spectrum.. 458 lott was enough for this cowboy.. as far as reasons
" PERSONALITY TRAITS" comes to mind..... people like exotic things , fast car , fast women, adrenaline . Anything but normal everyday bla bla bla. Firearms are nothing more then.your personally expression..
Soon enough you won't be allowed to have a personality if the LIBTARDS have there way... no free thinking, let alone a big bore..
Buy the rifle O.P. live a little while you can..after all its rant Monday in Kanada

I have a Ruger M77 Hawkeye African in 416 Ruger just because, and it is fun as hell to shoot...what other reason should I need? :)

I was shooting my 8 lb Remington 700 416 Rem Mag at the gun club a few years ago. My friend, a silhouette shooter, hunter and regular good guy, rolls on over to the bench, starts talking about the gun. On thing leads to another, he's shooting it offhand, his eyebrow is bleeding, thankfully he's laughing. He shot the weekend match with a nice shiner and a few band aids.
That's what I love about big bores. Fun with a side of pain.

Because everyone should own at least one medium bore or large bore capable of taking dangerous game, and learn how to shoot it properly. Even if you never get to Africa, or Alaska for brown bear, you'll be prepared to, just in case life offers the opportunity!
And as you said, it will pair nicely with your 300 H&H!
Then all you will need is a 275 H&H and you'll have a three rifle battery to hunt the world with in style!

Op, Go for it. I bought a 375 H&H several years back just I because to took a liking to a friend of mines. Then I had to have a 300 H&H to complete the family. Like others have stated the 375 H&H works great on dangerous deer.

I am sure Gatehouse will be along anytime to disturb dust and tell us the errors of our ways and the attributes and glories of the 375 Ruger.

.375 H&H gets a weird rap as a “big” cartridge. If you can handle the recoil it’s just a big .30-06.

In Africa they thought of it as the .30-06, and 18 year olds shot it without a second thought. The recoil really isn’t that bad, and the trajectory is really quite good, overall making for an incredibly useful rifle. I used to put together strings of pictures of all the animals I was taking with the .375 H&H, I’ve very honestly lost count of the head of game, and the species I’ve taken with it. But they’ve ranged from 20lbs to more than a ton, cats from Lynx to Lion, Coyote to Cape Buffalo.

It was never too much and never too little, though it has been too heavy of a rifle to carry in some scenarios. But hold a .375 H&H cartridge and you’ll be let down, it’s actually pretty small physically. And it only kicks like a 12 gauge not some demon. “That’s it??” is the most common reaction to shooting it for the first time. Yes, it’s more recoil than the uninitiated shooter can handle, and a tad much for some experienced hands even. But it’s not rude or brutal by any means, a goose load in an average shotgun is worse. And you’ll find ammo from Fort Nelson BC to Bulawayo Zimbabwe without a hiccup.

Just for kicks.

That's reason enough.

I did it with several 375s over the years. In the end, I found myself enjoying the smaller girly gun chamberings at the range and sold the med. bores all off.

The largest I have now is a 300H&H and no magnums otherwise. I may sell that and go to the 280 or another 30-06 for larger stuff with heavy NPs.
