Hey, any of you guys know If the barrel shank threads on a model 700 are the same as the threads on a model 7600 barrel? Was thinking of a 7600 re-barrel job using a 700 barrel in a calibre the pump rifles aren't usually offered in..

Not the same barrels. That being said, I have seen more than just the odd 7600 that would shoot well inside an inch.

Ya for sure have had many of them. Was wanting to build a pump in a 6.5 CM and hoped a model 700 barrel in that chambering would work. Maybe a re-bore of a 7600 in 243 would work in stead..

A 700 take-off could be altered to fit the 7600 barrel extension. This would be easier and probably cheaper than reboring.
Over the years, a number of folks have made up Remington pumps with multiple barrels.

The barrel extension where the bolt locks in, bought 4 from lumpley a few yrs back, still have two of em..

Yes, that piece. I can't find them anywhere. Short of re-using one, don't see any other option. Be nice to have an extension to ad to a barrel without having to fight to remove one to use again.

That's what I had in mind. I imagine the threads would be the only issue then.

Thread diameter, shank length, bolt nose clearance, headspace will all have to be set. But it is no worse than adapting a 700 take-off to a different action.
I've not done a 7600, but have rebarrelled a 760. It was quite straightforward.

A 760 has a barrel extension - akin to an AR - with the lug sandwiched between it and the barrel shoulder.
I believe a 7600 has a one piece unit, with the lug and locking area being one piece.
The 760 threads are much smaller in diameter than the 700 threads. Doubt that a 7600 is much different.

Ya I tried to switch barrels on a 7600 a few years ago, just couldn't get that damn barrel extension off. Tried heat as well, no luck. Gave up on it. An aftermarket extension is the way to go.

Ok, I measured .308 win and 6.5CM ammo today. OAL is virtually the same so I am thinking a 243/308 based action in the 7600 would work. Same magazine and bolt face. Just need to figure out which is the best route, switch the barrel or have a 243 barrel bored and chamber cut for the 6.5 cartridge. Gonna make some calls.
