No License, no gun, can I go....

Quick question,

Can I go in the boat and blind with my Brother and Father - who both have licenses if I do not. I have not had a chance to get a copy of the regs, but wanted to see if anyone knew for sure.

I do not plan on hunting, hence the no gun part. They would both have guns but I want to go for the event. The three of us have never done this before and my dad is getting older. It will be good Family time.

well if your from ont the answer is NO you cant in the reg's it will tell you what the MNR considers hunting
 
I don't see any reason why not. This 'guy I know' just went hunting with his elderly father with one hunting license and PAL between them :) And you say all you are doing is going for the ride? As long as a CO isn't right behind you I can see no reason why you couldn't take a shot or three for fun if you weren't too worried either. You are going to be in a blind, no one is going to see who is shooting.

PS. I hope I don't get too many angry people telling me I am encouraging someone to break the law
 
Wow! Ontario is very resrictive. In Saskatchewan anyone can accompany a licenced hunter, the only stipulation is if big game hunting with a rifle they must also be wearing safety colours.

:confused: chit... guess I better do some reading. I thought someone could tag along as long as they are dressed accordingly .
 
Just bring a camera along and say your there taking pictures. Works here in Manitoba. The NRO's will even tell you they can't prove that your hunting, you can even take a "leisurely stroll" through the bush if you buddies is posting along a logging road. Who's to say if your pushing bush.

Positively Not if your in Ontario !!!!.I checked on this about bringing my son with me and was told that they are considered "stocking,chasing wild game just as a hunter is ".
Sorry to spoil things be we don't make the laws and don't wont to end up being charged.

Although if you read the regs, it does appear that you can't, but I don't really think that is how it is meant to be.

I have had non hunters with me on a few occassions and been checked by the MNR with absolutely no problem at all.

They just can't actively participate in the hunt.

I find this very hard to believe although it has been a long time since I have been hunting. We have always had 'non hunters' with us and have always been of the understanding that if unarmed and non participatory that they are not governed by the hunting regulations. There is no law against "stalking" game in an unarmed fashion... or we would have no pictures of wild animals taken by professional photographers. You can rest assured that they do not go out and get hunting licenses in order to 'stalk' wild game and take pictures.

On the other hand... with our strange laws... I would make a phone call to MNR to be certain.

I think the answer will be that if the person is unarmed and non participatory that they are considered 'non hunters' and are not covered by the hunting regulations.

Anything else would be just silliness.
 
I find that hard to believe and if it is true it's bullsh*t. Does that mean you can't take a kid with you who isn't old enough to have a hunting licence. Your non hunting wife cannot accompany you on a hunt? What about fishing, can your girlfriend not sit in the boat with you while your fishing if she dosen't have a licence. What happens if your conjoined twins and only one twin wants to hunt. What the hell is the matter with people back east, they cant seem to give up their rights to freedom fast enough, are you guys always bent over permanently and do you also swallow? Just another reason for the west to seperate before the eastern insanity spreads.

Wow, lots of replies. Thanks for the info. I will give the MNR a call just to be sure. Seems silly if I can't go. Thanks again.
 
This is the definition of 'hunting' from the Ontario Regs.
"HUNTING:
Includes lying in wait for, searching for, being on the trail of, pursuing,
chasing or shooting at wildlife, whether or not the wildlife is killed,
injured, captured or harassed."
"...another reason for the west to seperate(sic)..." The Chairman of the Republican Party welcomes the delegates from the new State of Alberta.
 
I dont give a rat's ass what the regs say here in Ontario. If I want to take my NON-HUNTING wife or friend along for a walk in the bush she will be coming. I'll make her wear blaze orange for her own safety. If any CO tries to give me a hard time over it I'll tell him to kiss my ass too. The "forest" is not only for hunters whether we like it or not...
 
so i have to wait till my sons 12 to get his hunters apprenticeship card? as soon as he's old enough (or when momma says its okay:D), im taking him in the duck blind with me. i see dads bring there kids hunting all the tune, and i doubt that they're old enough to hunt. as long as he(or she) is not shooting, i doubt the CO would give you a hard time about this.
