I am looking for advice on putting a scope on a NR black rifle. I am specifically using this for hunting coyotes. We call coyotes in Alberta and most set ups are 300 yards or less.

I would suggest since you are specifically using the rifle for coyote hunting that you keep it simple. You don't need a big heavy scope with a 34mm tube, 25x magnification, tactical turrets and 110 moa of elevation.

I just bought a cheap Vortex Viper 4-12x40 for a Modern Sporter that's only going to be used for coyotes. I have the same scope on a couple of bolt guns I use for yotes and have been really happy with them for a cheaper optic. It has plenty of magnification range for yote hunting, the glass is surprisingly good, it does have adjustable parallax which isn't really necessary but it is there nonetheless, it doesn't weigh a ton and the capped turrets are great as you don't often have time to play with all the bells and whistles while yote hunting anyways.

Probably the best feature about it is the large magnification adjustment lever. It makes for really fast magnification adjustments because it's easy to turn with your gloves on.

Prophet River has them in stock for $399

Found an old picture I posted on here from when I set up my 243 with a Vortex Viper 4-12x40. I've since put one on a 22-250 and now have one coming for a MS. I think they are a great yote hunting scope.

Vortex Gen2 1-6x great close up and longer shots on yotes. You will probably get more accurate responses with a price range though... if price is no object the new 1-10x Vortex gen 3 would be hard to beat.

Any thoughts on the Vortex Strike Eagle 1-8x24? My budget is around $500

Strike eagle has bad eye relief and fish eye!

For under 500$ Go used and get a decent 1-4x or 3-9x depending on preference. At that price point it’s hard to recommend a top option. In all honesty I’d grab a vortex 3x magnifier and Sparc AR, used you could grab them for 400-500$

I run a bushnell AR Optics 3-12×40 with BDC on my 5.56mm semi auto coyote gun. Zeroed it once and with the bdc I shoot 200-300 regularly without touching the turrets.

Around the five mark, I'd be looking in the EE for a used Leupold 4x12-40 and hopefully
something decent shows up.

Hate scopes with cluttered +'airs.

Little bit more, but not a lot. I am pretty fond of my USO TS-12, FFP and very light and compact. Makes for a pretty decent coyote scope. The tube is very short though so mounting options are limited.

Experience has taught me that for coyote hunting this is what works best, at least for me. Something in the lower power variable magnification ranges, definetly no higher than 4.5-14 or so
3.5-10 or 3-15 is better, and with as wide a field of view as possible, hence an Obj. lens of minimum 40mm up to 50 mm( bigger is better). Eye relief, cheek weld and eye-box are paramount also. This will set you up for anything you will encounter, close in moving targets coming to a call, further out targets either stationary or moving and longer range stationary targets, all shot at from various positions. Get yourself a good range finder also if you intend to shoot longer range. Parallax adjustment is not really necessary and please do yourself a favour and get almost anything other than a Vortex.

If you want a LVPO and you don’t want to spend $1000+ I think you need to give up on having a true 1x on the bottom. I haven’t seen a sub $500 scope do 1x worth a damn yet.

WHat about something like the Primary Arms 1-6 with ACSS?

I always thought those looked pretty slick, does anyone have any experience or know if they're decent? It's been too close to the $500 mark for me to justify experimenting with it.
