What does a good condition VXIII 4.5x12-40 Duplex fetch now a days?
Turrets are a bit taller than the 3x9's.
Buddy wishes to swap this for an item of mine and I'm not sure what
these go for on a used marked.
Matte for finish and no noticeable damage.
Can't see under the rings and won't know what is there until it's
taken off.

Anyways,

Is the scope 4.5-14 or 4-12?

Does it have side focus? Say a 4.5-14x40 with target turrets, this would usually have parallax adjustment...

Got a photo of it today.
Box end states VX*-3i 4.5-14x40mm
Duplex
179692

No front or side AO nawby/ring

How does one find out that it is a counterfeit ?
Good to hear you found out before spending the cash monies.

For those that prefer Leupold and are familiar with them, there are some tell tale signs on
those two photos I posted in #8.
Leupold doesn't put the serial number where the AO side knob would be.
The end of the box sticker states Matt-lin.
It should be Matt-1in.
Few other sqwibbles and calling Leupolds 1-800# with the serial number spelled it out.

Write the serial number down on the box as it is a famous one used.

When in doubt, call it in.
I'm almost certain there is a fake Leupold in the EE.
Can't comfirm it for sure, but it sure looks fishy.
