222 Rem Rechamber to ?

Anyone on here shoot a 223 AI cartridge ? RJ

I'M NOT REBARRELING or REBORING ! only a rechambering !

Yep, I have some. One of them is a Sako Vixen that started out as .222, it shoots 45gr TSX’s and 40gr Vmax’s into pretty consistent groups well under half MOA. Will also shoot 53gr TSX’s but that opens up closer to 1 MOA. Killed several deer and black bears with it, as well as a jag of coyotes.

A 45gr TSX at 3850fps is a pretty wicked little pill and will reliably break both shoulders on big mulies out farther than you would think.

Already have a .223 and .22-250 with a .22 creed on the way and looking to make a .222 Remington sporter more interesting without reboring or rebarreling. Cast bullets maybe? Rechambering will not really give you anything not already available to you, unless the other rifles are dedicated bench rigs. No reason not to play with a .223 ai, .222 Rem mag or .22-204 if it will give you the warm and fuzzies. It is your gun and your money.

One thought.... leave it as is and you could down-load it and make up a round shooting those 46gr Winchester h.p.'s.
Quieter, no recoil and won't pass through a pest in the yard, or anything else that needs killing at closer ranges. Also a good starter load for young or new shooters. Just a thought....

I use that exact bullet in my 222 but the inverse.
Maximum WW-748 ball powder charge and man oh man terminal effects small things.

It's not the same bullet loud smack noise as a spire point SX by Hornady. It's a strange popping sound a bit more subdued, with the rounded Winchester 46 grain hollow point designed for the Hornet.

Cast bullets and trailboss. The rifling twist keeps you stuck with light weight bullets if you increase case capacity.
Download it with trailboss and make an accurate centerfire 22mag of sorts

Turned out nicely, and yes indeed,

Ardent, I’ve looked at the data, is there much difference in real world use between the 5.6/50 and the 22-250. I have a 22-250 and then know some of what it can do (no big game in Alberta). You are much more in the know than me. Thanks AJ.PS I love the single shots and you have some great ones.

How would that handle such a slow twist?

It’s going fast, so it would work great up to 60gr maybe more.

Once handloaded not much, the factory 5.6x50 is downloaded a lot in the R version there’s audibly lots of space in the case you can hear when shaken. Handloaded I’m about 150fps behind my old No.1 .22-250 if I subtract 30fps per inch for barrel length, as I have just a 19” barrel on this.

i will look for a reamer ! RJ

I have one, that I’ll sell cheap I’m done with it, but again I’d push past the Rem Mag right to the 5.6x50 Mag, same reamer the 5.6x50 is just longer and believe it or not easier to find brass and ammo for.
