The District sales manager in Westphalia (Germany) during the 1950's for (I believe) Becks Beer was Kurt Meyer ... he used to spend time in the RCR Officers mess at Fort York in Soest sharing stories with the 'vets'

I never would have thought a prop plane could get to 50,000 feet and the diesel engines is news to me.

A diesel produces a lot of torque - which is what it takes to swing a prop, so it makes some sense.

Britain tried to do the same with the a specialized pressurized cockpit area Type 442 Wellington B Mark VI, which seemed to suffer from Rhinophyma.

As for fighters:
 
One on my former "bosses" used to be in RAF maintenance crew for these Lightnings. Loved to hear him talk about them.
Oddly enough, my very first "boss" in my summer job student days was ex-Argentinian Air Force.

I wonder who borrowed from whom??? Lots of Mig 21 in that design
 
The Lightning's degree of sweepback of the wings and tail remind me more of the Mig19 series of fighters than any other Russian fighter series from that timeframe.

Saw a Lightning make a slow victory roll over 4 CMBG HQ Fort Henry after making the annual RAF run over the Mohne Dam. You could see his roundels perfectly and the white lights of his after burner as he got the hell out of Dodge ASAP!

Officers were screaming - "Get the ID of that aircraft!" Our response - "What aircraft, Sir?".

Another time it was the Canberra in that beautiful RAF camo.
