During rifle season if I'm hunting public land here in Alberta, which I usually am, I always have on some blaze orange, even if it is just my obnoxiously bright orange hunting hat. IMHO if you are in full camo on public land you are definitely taking some chances. Someone who is in full camo and not moving is invisible in the bush. I bump into guys in full camo all the time out there but to each their own I guess......:confused:
I'm quite easy to see out there which is what I'm going for as I want to lower the odds of being shot.............:rolleyes:

So do you believe that wearing orange results in less firearms being pointed at you, or more? Some idiots use their scopes instead of binoculars, and point their rifles at other hunters, to look at them through their scopes. Any time a firearm is pointed at you, the risk of being shot increases. As to whether orange prevents accidental shootings or not, the number of accidental shootings in Alberta, did not suddenly increase, when the hunter orange requirement was abolished.
 
In Saskabush its a blaze orange/scarlet/yellow/white vest with an orange /red/yellow hat. I wear an orange hat and orange trimmed vest when hunting birds in big game season but it's not mandatory.
 
I would never go deer hunting without blaze orange. I don't care what district I'm in, for a few reasons.

Too many idiots running around the woods with guns (probably drunk)

Also, a buddy of mine I didn't know was hunting that particular day came right up to my stand, I never heard him, only at the last second did I see a blob of orange in the thick poplars.

Some hunters out there shoot at noise as well. Wouldn't want to be on the receiving end of that.

This all happened in my first year of hunting lol. I can only imagine what some veterans have seen over 30 years, probably alot worse.

All hunters and those accompanying them must wear a cap or hat and a vest, coat, or shirt of solid Hunter Orange visible from all sides.

I even wear blaze under ware after being shot at some years back and no I didnot have orange on back then

Require in NB, not in BC. Shouldn't be a problem either way, full camo is funny in most situations, but it's also whats on the shelf - and weather appropriate at lower price off season. Cost savings! So yeah, I use some of that camo stuff in BC over cost - otherwise, it's what I happen to be wearing. I'm not an advocate of blaze orange, I watch for signs of others in the area - if there are, I move on.
 
started hunting when there was still a requirement to wear blaze orange in Alberta

they changed the regs and now you wear whatever you want, I wear mostly older military kit.

I have not really noticed a difference while hunting.

but I must say I have only ever been shot at while wearing my orange hard hat and red cruise vest with high-vis stripes. But that was near the ANC road south of Whitecourt.
 
Little trivia for you guys, this orange stuff was an indirect result of the RAF and RCAF experiences in WWII searching for pilots and aircrew downed over water

Yes, orange makes you more visible that is the point! :rolleyes:
There are unfortunately always moron's that point their guns where they shouldn't but I don't think wearing some bright color out there changes that one way or another. The idiot who would point his rifle at some blaze orange that he spots will also point his rifle at the camo mound he see's moving around out there.....:(
The only difference is he already knows that the former is another hunter but hasn't yet figured out that the latter is as well......:confused:

In my opinion I think wearing orange means that less of the time a scope is being pointed at me.
The guys I hunt with don't point their rifles at other hunters and having some orange on allows us to keep a better eye on each other out there and is in my opinion safer that not having it on. To each their own.

No requirement in BC as has already been said, I’ll add my two cents though. I’m working in the bush now and we wear hi vis while working, yes it’s pretty visible when you notice it but I will say sometimes I’ll be looking for one of my coworkers to make sure we’re not working too close to each other and it can be hard to pick them out when they’re in the thick stuff or behind trees and scrub. Either way I don’t feel the need to wear blaze orange while I’m hunting, I don’t hunt too many high traffic areas to begin with so the risk of running into other hunters is pretty low.

And I have personally watched an idiot point his rifle at my hunting partners who were wearing orange caps, after he noticed them. He didn't notice me, so he didn't point his rifle at me, as I watched him through my binoculars.
 
Pack a blaze orange cap with me, if I want to be noticed for pick up or whatever I will wear it. Not into camo, but it is often well priced bush gear. Does Cabelas still sell camo toilet paper.
