C96 With file marks?

looks like someone either tried to remove some markings or tried to lower/fit the sight. If no return possible get at least some discount on the gun. This marks can easily be removed. If you get someone that understands metal he will remove this marks for you and blue that section that it will not be noticeable that anything was ever done there

Wow, just watched how these are disassembled... Very cool and I would hesitate to estimate what it would cost to make today.

So mismatched grips (looks like there were oiled), bolt stop, and ground upper receiver sight base. The extractor is in the white where it should be a blued colour.
Date of maunf 1914... Early WWI and with a desc like "Excellent bore with well-defined land and grooves" "No pitting on steel parts" So how is the bore?

Bore looks like a mirror, thin rifling but that should be expected on a 100 year old gun given that the barrel is part of the receiver.

Depending on what you mean by thin this could be normal. My experience with handguns of the period, No.2 Mk.1 and victory revolvers is that the rifling is not overly deep or wide.

For instance on my No.2 it is about .005” deep by .035” wide

In your bottom pic with the yellow Background. the back of the upper reciever looks bulged behind the slide stop? open the action, with the slide back, check the right rear back edge of the reciever to see if it looks filed and put a straight edge against it to check if its square. If this doesn't make sense pm me.

Out the Seller with his name, address and phone number if no refund. See how Big of a Man or Boy he becomes when you tell him you're going public on all the gun forums. Play his F'n Game!

Tell him to Grow Up and quit humping firearms like Bubba!

A Crook renumbers a mismatch to sell it as matching for more money.

I totally agree with this statement! I’ve sold some stuff over the years, and have always ask, after the person has received there purchase if they are happy , and if there is any problems...better to deal with it right away...then to have it haunt you . But with some people, the all mighty dollar is number one. Please post user name...if it’s a CGNer. We are trying to build a Community , with respectable individuals, that we’d all be happy to call your friends .
Cheers

Looks like bulge to me. This can go unnoticed. I haven't until Gaff mentioned. I know I also overlook sometimes obvious things, so I would give seller benefit of the doubt for this but not for his "all matching". Seller specifically mentioned that grips serials match, they don't and one can see those are the same grips that are on seller pics. Could have said "visible numbers match" but no, he said grips matching.

If there is a bulge as Horilka pointed out it explains why there are grind marks on the top. Material stretched to the top as well so in order to lower the sights it had to be grind a bit. So if the bolt stop is not matching I'm just assuming that original was stuck someone tried to remove it used too much force stretched the receiver and it bulged to the side and the top. This is just the assumption based on the photos and observations

Give him a short, set deadline to make it right. Tell him: "visible numbers does not equal numbers matching". You bought it in good faith, and it's not out of line to expect him to rectify the situation. Money back, if you like the gun as is, or complete return.

You have a good paper trail, on money paid, gun trading hands, and the misleading add. Tell him you are giving him the benefit of the doubt, and people miss these things. You believe he's honest (you can gloss over this, for your needs for the time being..) and give him a fair chance to do the right thing. If he wants to be ignorant about it, let him know you're next step is outing him on this forum, the forum you did the transaction on, and reporting him for fraud. And then you will take him to small claims court.

And then do it.

IF it has bulged it is from shooting ammo that is too hot, 7.62tt surplus ammo, the locking lugs will most likely be damaged as well.
the file marks on the top of the action have nothing to do with this.

Compared to this one..

Just got home from Uni, I'll be doing a full takedown in the next few days with plenty of images both to protect myself and to inform the seller of anything he may not have known.

Regarding outing the seller, I believe a little decency goes a long way which is why I'm hiding his personal info while this issue is ongoing. The personal communications is more to ensure info is out in the open to ensure transparency. I did get an email (images to come) basically to the regards that he would be willing to deal with the issue. Of course if the issue is not resolved or shenanigans occur then obviously escalation would occur.

Also looking at it now that you have pointed it out, there is something that definitely looks like a bulge on the right of the frame.
