Plastic Pistol Preference

You might also consider the X-Calibur by Grand Power.
A lesser-known gun though fairly pricey, striker-fired plastic pistol.
Interesting fluted barrel and lightening cut-outs on the slide.

Looking for input.
I've been thinking about getting a striker fired 9mm range toy.
Recently I tried the Strike one Speed and liked it quite a bit.
Pistols I'm interested in are the Walther PPQ Match , Strike one Speed and maybe the SP01 Shadow.
Please don't tell me to get a Glock.
thx
Is there a reason not to tell you to get a Glock? Just curious, have you held or shot one or is it just Glock hate from reading stuff Glock haters write? If there is no valid reason to rule something out why not try one, hundreds of millions seem to think they are just fine

Don't hate Glocks, I almost really liked the 48.
I just prefer my triggers to be less cap gun and more crispy.
Thats why my original post mentioned pistols more competition oriented.
I also like interesting engineering solutions (strike one)
Heck if the Hudson H9 was still a thing I'd be trying to find one lightly used.

The SP-01 isn’t a striker fired nor a polymer but since you don’t want a Glock, get the Shadow.

The Q match is a nice gun but is quite pricey compared to the other 2.

I’ve not tried the Speed but I have shot the Strike One. The only 2 I saw in competition failed miserably. I heard the Speed is an improvement but I really have no experience. The super low bore axis is cool but the Shadow sells the same thing and is a proven platform.

Buying the SP01 would be like hitting the easy button.
Is there a version of the SP01 without the heavy rail/dust cover?

It seems there are a few lightly used PPQ Match pistols for sale , and a lot of CZ's.

Thanks for the input guys .
I really hadn't given the Sig or Grand Power any thought.

The following ought to be on anyone's list:

M&P Series, if you could buy all the versions of this series listed in their catalog you would have to first win the Lottery.

PPQ M2 over the Match unless you plan on going Optic then the Match meets that requirement. There is no daylight between the M2 and the Match. They both shoot the same with the same triggers. The extra slide cuts on the Match help to offset the weight of the Optic on the slide. Other than that they are the same gun. I own them both. They are at the top my list for being user friendly. You can change the sights on the guns in less than ten minutes with nothing more than a flat screwdriver for example and have one of the best stock triggers out there

Sig 320 Series. The US armed forces adopted it because it was the best gun out there for their purposes. The gun will be around for a long time.

Springfield XD Series.quietly one of the best options out there.

On the periphery, are the boutique striker fired guns ie the Beretta, CZ Striker fired, Masada, and FN Series. These all work and have there following. As an aside I met one of our members who has the FN and it a jamamatic using factory ball ammo. I am sure it was an outlier but it could not fire two rounds in a row without jamming and he had four different mags with him.

Aside from the one FN above and stories about the SD9 I have not run into a modern striker fired polymer fired pistol that was not not dead nuts reliable, and capable of out shooting most shooters in stock form. You just have to go pick out one and go shoot the snot out of it.

The M&P covers a lot of shooting bases at a very attractive price for new shooters.

Take Care

Bob

Fair enough, at least you have given them a shot :)
The Sig 320 is a nice gun, got a chance to shoot one the other day and it was quite enjoyable, and of course the PPQ is just awesome, crazy light trigger and a super short reset makes it a joy to shoot. Good luck choosing the one that works for you!

Of the guns mentioned, I have a SP01 Shadow, SP01 Shadowline, a Sig P320, and have fired a Sig P320 X5 Legion. I love my CZs but if I were to but one new now it would be the Legion. Amazing trigger and quite hefty to absorb recoil for quick follow up shots. I do not have one as I cannot justify it with the CZs sitting in the vault.

I would take a P320 over a Glock 17 most days, and I own a G17 and G19 as well.

Skip the striker. Skip the poly...but if you most go in that direction, one of the finest pieces I've ever owned was the P09. Tons of fun, flattest shooter I've owned, and their omega trigger system let's you jump between safety or decocker. Plus, with all the P10 mags now, there's no shortage.

And if you must do a poly striker, why not the P10f. Ha

They are just fine, but they are fugly.

every one of the pistols mentioned will probably be more accurate than the average shooter. Find the one that fits your hand the best. practice pulling the trigger to get a feel for the action, and get one that fits with your criteria as to features. Compare apples to apples. ie; cost vs features vs value. Once you find one you like, get it and try it out and if you are not satisfied then simply sell it and move on to the next. Pistols usually sell for 80% of new or sometimes more on the EE.

Take a good look at the Canik TP9SFX. I got one with the Vortex Viper red dot, tax in, for about $850. (irunguns.ca had a huge special on it) It came with the full range kit, cleaning kit, spare parts, and two 20rnd (pinned to 10) mags. The red dot by itself is $379. It's super fun and has the best trigger out of the box. https://www.shootingillustrated.com...st-look-canik-tp9sfx-with-vortex-viper-optic/

I also have the Springfield XDM 9 which I highly recommend and shoot equally as much.

I have only owned 2 different plastiguns. First was a XDM 9mm. Nice gun but not quite right. Second is a P320. I really like this one. It fits my hand really nice and the slide shape makes it a lot easier to manipulate over the XDM. I have held and fired a few Glocks and I still don't like them. They feel ugly in my hand. Many guns put a smile on my face but not the Block...i mean Glock. Ha ha. I used to hate all polymers. I was a steel only guy. I'm changing I guess.
