Which semi-auto non-restricted AR-10 style rifle to chose?

Stag 10, always.

Buy an upper and lower and then BUILD it up from parts, get exactly what you want. Use the EE for parts, many awesome deals on NIB or lightly used parts and you can save some good money doing so if you are not in a massive rush.

I think the XCR-M is arguably the best battle rifle design going - but the price is just plain silly. The real problem right now with all these platforms is finding PMAGS, etc.

i had been waiting for a while to get into the AR10 game and asked the same question as the OP.
i ended up going with a STAG and i do not regret it at all.
my coworkers have a ARTS and a BCL102 so i was able to get hands on with those.
while i would love to get a ARTS i could not justify the $3800 price tag my coworker put out for his and that was pretty much base model.
the BCL102 fells super nice and seems like it would be good but there are just so many horror stories out there.
dont get me wrong, im pretty sure eventually i WILL get the new MK7 ones because i do like NEA/BCL, i have 4 of their AR's and i love them.
but for me i wanted to spend once and cry once so i went with the STAG.
gun is well worth the money.
if you shop around and have money in hand you can pick up the base model for like $1800, or a upgraded model for like $2200.
you can build your own and after building 3 AR's i had considered doing that but for my first dive into the AR10 i went with a premade gun.

youll enjoy whichever one ya get im sure!

For out of the box setup the matrix looks pretty tempting with its 1/2 moa claim. From what I can tell it is an armalite pattern (vs dpms) and if so there will be some extra compatibility concerns when it comes to aftermarket parts.

For a custom/DIY build, Stag.

One more vote for the Sterling Arms from me. So far other than some very minor issues that were all fixed very quickly, it's been smooth sailing and it shoots very well!

Stag 10!

Bought complete with minor tweaks needed. Quality of upper and lower is solid for this price point.

Building one would have been much more rewarding and will definitely look into it for my next AR!

I don't have any tool to build an AR so pre-builded one is my go to.

If I had to buy one right now I would have a hard time choosing between the matrix and the stag-10.

Stag-10 seem to already have a good reputation and the build is not bad, but on the other hand the Matrix pre-build is way better with part like a lantec brake for exemple.

Tools for a build will cost about 2 to 3 hundred if you have nothing, but they can be used for future builds.
I’m on my 8th now.

Yes, the Matrix has a couple of nice features but it’s still a new rifle , is it not?

For that reason, I’d hold off until the Beta testers are done .. lol

Some things most people already have for tools, depending on your level of handiness

- Vice?
- Torque wrench (good for 0-100 ft/lbs)... not a necessity per say, but nice to have if it’s your first time and you don’t want to go by ‘feel’
- Punches
- Hammer and/or mallet

Things you will need:
- barrel nut wrench
- something to clamp/hold the upper while you install the barrel nut*

*there are a ton of options on this:
- clamshell (although sometimes it won’t work on the proprietary parts)
- action rod
- Magpul BEV block
- barrel vice
- wood blocks
- a cinderblock. Kidding on this one... but you get the idea, it’s all about your creativity.

In a pinch, I have assembled one with a towel, a partner, and some wood.

The most important tool is patience though - particularly if you lack the other tools.

The SAI-102 is on sale again. I've seen one in person and I think they're a nice enough receiver set. The machining quality is definitely its strong point despite the few small issues they have that can be sorted out fairly easily. Once you build one AR or similar platform it gets addictive and you will buy more.

Yes I will wait for the beta testers too ;)

I don't plan at all to build multiple rifles. I have a load of hobbies not only shooting so the money is spread out. (Knives, cars, traveling, photography, gaming)

I live in a 1 1/2 loft style so I don't have any place for tools except the basic one like drill, screwdriver, pliers, ect. I do everything gun related on my kitchen table.

Go to Tactical Imports and pick up their G36 non-restricted.

A steal at under 6G. Better be fast though as not many in stock. Nice gun but a little steep for me.

I have both a stag 10 and bcl 102. No complaints about either. I wish I could afford all the choices but not in the cards right now.

My son built a really nice light stag, beautiful rifle, I bought the BCL 102 because I got a really good deal on it and had to deal with some issues. No problem for me I knew what I was getting and have built many rifles over the years and it runs like clockwork now, it is a bit of a heavy pig though.

Why would say that,XCR-M

Because I ran one very hard with a high round count when I had more budget. I never had a single issue with it and I was very satisfied about its performance at the range, during matches and out in the wood. It ran reliably with any ammo, any magazines with minimal maintenance that didn't require special tools

The XCR platform is a good one when used like a battle rifle and not trying to chass sub-moa groups at the bench.

This is why I wrote what I wrote. I love the Stag10, I love AR platforms but the XCR has some appeal too

Thanks, just curious what you liked about them.
I had two XCR-L keymod HB and they ran good.
Only issue I had and it was my fault was I snapped the head off the barrel retention bolt.
But I still prefer the MS and Stag. But if not for those the XCR would be my next choice.
