Rifle Fouled bad.

KROIL and JB will clean ANYTHING ! out of a barrel ! jmo RJ

Problem is, who carries Kroil? I don't think they have any Canadian distributors, although some companies/industries bring it in for their own use. I think Reliable Gun & Tackle in Vancouver has it, but that won't help the OP who is in AB. I get mine from Hardware Sales in Bellingham WA, but it's convenient because I'm down there regularly. It's darned good stuff. Might be worth a separate thread in the general topics section so people can chip in with where they get theirs.

Is it important to get it that clean ? How does the bore look ?
It looks like you've put in a good effort, why not just try shooting it now and see how it does ?

Plenty of Patches distributes it, you can find it on their website stock list. Most small gun shops deal with them so it's not as hard to find if you know where to look!

Brass brush causing it?

X2 - a brass brush in combination with many common bore cleaners will eat at the brass and leave a black residue behind.

Before you try everyone's pet bore cleaner, home remedies and different approaches, try just a bore cleaner you already have with cloth patches and see what happens.

I have is carb cleaner in right now. I went to town the local gun store did not have wipe out in stock. I have Kroil and ran some through it but I have a hard time with Kroil and use it outside most of the time, when it was -15c I had to open the doors to my shop and let it air out, the wife was complaning that I cost $20.00 in extra heat.

HI - I've not had a 'major' problem like that, but I recently researched this online and found Lots of commendation of Bore Tech BTCC-35016 C4 Carbon Remover, 16 oz @ $41.85 from amazon.ca. Also, Hoppes 'Black Label Carbon Remover' that I can't find at amazon. The thread I found about this suggested that recent comments have caused Hoppes B-L to be Out of Stock lately ;-)
I ordered the Bore-tech and hope to have it in hand Monday. I'll report on this when I get some.
For Copper fouling, I did as others have suggested - I plugged the muzzle of my 308 Rem 700 SPS and poured Hoppes Copper cleaner in. Left it for a couple days and the copper is gone !!
Hope you can get your problem solved before that, maybe one of these products are available near you. I'm in New Brunswick and the BassPro here doesn't carry much along these lines ;-(

$41.85? Youch! (I see they have a 4oz container as well for about $23.00. Still pretty "youchy") I wonder if that stuff is really just a repackaged- and highly marked-up - industrial product like the GM Top Engine Cleaner many years ago, which as I recall was about 4x the price of the GM Product when marketed as a bore cleaner. There may have even been a thread on this here on CGN but it would be so old that it wouldn't be archived. I remember that on some forum someone had looked up the MSDS and found that the info (and actual manufacturer) were the same.

In any case, I hope it works as well as its price suggests!

Hmmm.. here are some threads on the subject of TEC. I think the over-priced "gun cleaning" product that was supposed to be the same might have been Butch's Bore Shine but I'm not sure. GM TEC is long gone now and according to one comment I read (from a GM tech at the time) , its replacement was nowhere near as good.

Hey josquin - Yeah, $42 for 16 oz, but it'll last the rest of my life probably. Gotta spend it on something. I'm 2 weeks short of 70 ;-) and I only have 7 weapons that I may use it on. I've done the 'old' copper brush on a drill thing, makes me cringe to think about it but there was a bad carbon ring on one of my 22s. It went away pretty quick !! Like just a few seconds !!

Yup... sometime "you just gotta do what you gotta do." I just ordered a 50ml bottle of Loctite 277 (high-strength, for >1" bolts) to help hold a locknut on the stub axle of the front wheel of my diesel tractor. Even from Amazon US (as I have an alt. address in Bellingham WA) it was about $25 USD and I may never need it on anything else, but given the hassle of having to take the wheel ass'y apart, it may be worth it. I'm 2 1/2 years short of 70 (HOW DID THIS HAPPEN?) so I can relate :)

Hi cycbb - Yeah, I forgot to mention that I also have a Teslong borescope coming along with the cleaner. amazon.ca has them for about $67 cdn. Verry good reviews on several forums. Unfortunate that I won't be able to look into my two .177 pelgun rifles, but they only have a few hundred rounds each. One is PAL and one not. But I have a .22 Crosman 1322 I can look at too.
